Responsibilities*

The Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) offers courses that exemplify experiential learning and foster an entrepreneurial mindset, accessible to all University of Michigan students.

The selected individual will co-teach ENTR 490.316: Perot Jain TechLab (PJTL) HealthTech during Winter 2025. This 3-credit course represents the first semester in a two-part, 6-credit sequence that immerses students in real-world entrepreneurship through collaboration with high-growth startups in the healthcare technology sector.

About Perot Jain TechLab HealthTech
PJTL HealthTech offers students hands-on entrepreneurial experience by pairing them with cutting-edge startups in healthcare and medical devices, specifically those at the post-Series A funding stage. Students from diverse academic backgrounds - Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, and Data Analytics - tackle industry-defined challenges via technical projects, gaining mentorship and insights into the fast-evolving HealthTech industry. The course cultivates a talent pipeline to support this sector's growth, leveraging U-M's strong connections in healthcare, precision medicine, and medical devices at regional and global levels.

Throughout this course, students will:

• Develop Technical Project Management Skills: Learn essential project management concepts such as project scoping, customer engagement, professional communication, and task delegation, focusing on early commercialization stages and technology roadmapping.
• Master Product Management Fundamentals: Gain experience incorporating customer perspectives into project deliverables, enhancing project relevance and impact.
• Explore Cutting-Edge HealthTech Innovations: Study technologies such as telemedicine, mobile health, electronic health records, wearable medical devices, genomics, precision medicine, health analytics, big data, and generative AI.
• Understand HealthTech Commercialization Pathways: Learn about the routes to market for HealthTech innovations and gain insights into the commercialization process.

PJTL HealthTech equips students with practical skills and industry knowledge, preparing them to excel in the growing Health Tech field.

During the 15-week Winter 2025 term, the instructor(s) will be responsible for developing course materials, delivering in-person lectures, holding weekly office hours, preparing and grading assessments, managing and evaluating class projects, and supporting student teams and individual projects. Additional duties include refining assignments, overseeing project milestones, and participating in monthly Faculty Community Meetings with the CFE.

Required Qualifications*

• Master's degree in a relevant field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Demonstrated expertise in organizational management, program management, and the entrepreneurial process, from idea conception, technology development, and growing a team to fundraising, specifically in the healthcare industry
• Experience directly related to the advancement of healthcare technologies
• Demonstrated and successful practice of entrepreneurship and new venture creation at small and large scale
• Ability to establish credibility and rapport with students
• Demonstrated ability to teach first-year students to PhD students in a classroom environment
• Ability to learn conceptual frameworks quickly and apply them to practical student needs
• Strong communication skills, including oral and visual presentations
• Experience working with startups or commercialization efforts in the HealthTech industry
• Held leadership positions or founding experience with startups in the Michigan ecosystem and beyond

Desired Qualifications*

• Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in a relevant field
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas

Modes of Work

Additional Information

This position is posted for the Winter 2025  term at 15% effort (6 hours per week).

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
