Summary

This position serves as a Registered Nurse (RN) in one of the IHS hospitals or ambulatory health centers located within the Oklahoma City Area.

This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on a register and referred for consideration when vacancies occur. Your application will expire in 8 months. You must reapply at least every 8 months to keep your application active for this vacancy.

Duties

  • Inputs patient care information in manual and automated record systems.
  • Performs procedures, treatments and medication administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

GS-05: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-05 level:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing with no experience; OR
  • A diploma or associate degree in professional nursing (or will complete such degree within the next 9 months) and one (1) full year of professional nursing experience. This experience includes: observing and assessing patients' clinical conditions with the ability to identify and interpret serious situations, formulating a nursing diagnosis appropriate to patients' needs, setting up and operating general nursing equipment, administering medication, and documenting nursing activities regarding direct patient care; OR
  • Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in professional nursing and expect to complete this degree within the next 9 months.

GS-07: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-07 level:
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing and eligibility under the (or I will complete such degree under S.A.A. provisions within the next 9 months); OR
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing (or will complete such degree within the next 9 months) and at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: contributing to the development of a plan of care for assigned patients based on the nursing process, providing nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness, setting up and operating specialized equipment, and demonstrates nursing leadership in providing technical guidance and direction to other nursing personnel (such as Licensed Practical Nurses and Nursing Assistants); OR
  • A diploma or associate degree in professional nursing (or will complete such degree within the next 9 months) and two (2) full years of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include: contributing to the development of a plan of care for assigned patients based on the nursing process, providing nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness, setting up and operating specialized equipment, and demonstrates nursing leadership in providing technical guidance and direction to other nursing personnel (such as Licensed Practical Nurses and Nursing Assistants); OR
  • Completion of a least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program (or will complete such education within the next 9 months).

GS-09: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-09 level:
  • A master's degree in professional nursing (or will complete such degree within the next 9 months); OR
  • One full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program (or will complete such education within the next 9 months). Experience includes: independently providing nursing care that requires the full range of professional nursing proficiency from assessment of the needs of a wide variety of patient illnesses, through developing a plan of care, administering medication and operating special equipment, and initiating appropriate measures in emergency situations. Experience also includes demonstrating nursing leadership in providing technical guidance and direction to other Registered Nurses and nursing personnel.
