As a Medical Affairs Franchise Head, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives.
Accountabilities
- Deliver a coordinated and timely medical evidence plan that supports the oncology cycle management plan within the TA, addressing the needs of payors, prescribers, and patients. This evidence plan should include all relevant generation activities including observational, interventional, and managed care-related research.
- Lead and handle the medical team, crafting an environment that champions innovation and high performance.
- Oversee Medical Affairs direct reports: medical affairs field and headquarters teams who are developing Medical Strategies and delivering Medical Plans for the compounds supported within cancer as well as supporting external interaction activities such as promotional review, speaker program support; and field teams including medical science liaisons and field physicians.
- Empower, encourage, and own the team by crafting an environment of shared goals, clear responsibilities, talent development/retention, and continuous improvement.
- Encourage interdependent teamwork within AZ and beyond as necessary to promote co-ownership of strategic objectives in cancer that may be of importance to marketing/sales and/or global constituencies.
- Identify best practices and capture innovative ideas in Medical Affairs (both internally and externally) and share them with the enterprise while encouraging an accountable, entrepreneurial team. Accountable for Medical insight generation to input to TA, Product, and Brand teams.
- Oversee opinion leader engagement to discuss therapy area and product strategy medical topics and generate insights into unmet patient needs across the patient pathway. Includes engagement with the leadership of medical associations to generate cancer insights reflecting oncology and appropriately provide our views to these societies.
- Engage strategically in the future of medicine and its provision within the TA with partners such as the real-world evidence team, managed markets team, and government affairs and advocacy teams.
- Participate as needed in Business Development activities within the TA.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Sophisticated Scientific Degree (MBBS, PharmD, PhD, or MD) or equivalent education
- Specialty training 7+ years of relevant clinical experience in the Therapeutic Area
- Pharmaceutical experience of 5-10+ years that includes leadership positions in Medical Affairs and/or R&D
- Experience and proven track record to lead cross-functional teams including field teams
- Strong opinion leader engagement experience
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Phase 3b/4 and post-approval dedication research including overseeing patient registries and REMS programs
- Translational medicine, population-based real-world research
- Bridging with coordinated care management & Quality improvement pathways
- Understanding of Health Outcomes Research including Patient-reported outcomes

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $269,869 to $404,803 Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
