Alkermes is seeking a talented individual for a co-op in our Formulation Development group in Waltham, MA. As a co-op, the selected candidate will support the ongoing work on establishing in-house knowledge for OSD development.  Work will include creating and testing blends, the use of powder flow characterization techniques, tablet formation and characterization methods, and data interpretation.  The candidate should have in depth knowledge of solid mechanics. The program offers the candidate with hands-on experience in various solid-state characterization techniques, and the opportunity to gain fundamental understanding of key aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to learn and apply statistical analysis and Design-of-Experiments.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering, Pharmaceutics or related discipline. 
  • Minimum GPA 3.2

Required Competencies:

  • Background in solid mechanics
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented
  • Ability to apply scientific principles to design, execute and interpret experiments
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Experience with granular material processes
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Python/JMP
  • Proficiency with electronic notebook

  • Positive, adaptable, can-do attitude
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours as required
  • Functional ability to work in a pilot plant and commercial facility
