WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The WY Sagebrush Technician works closely with other science staff on several priority research projects. The WY Sagebrush Technician collects and manages field data and transcribes interview data. They may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

As part of the TNC Wyoming business unit and TNC's ecosystem-wide Sagebrush Sea Program, the WY Sagebrush Technician will assist our team in a variety of projects, including: evaluation of early detection methods for invasive annual grasses, prioritizing and testing the effectiveness of invasive annual grass treatments, and understanding perceptions and priorities among Sagebrush Sea land managers. The WY Sagebrush Technician will be responsible for coordinating a variety of field tasks as well as managing data. They will work in a team and at times independently across several workstreams to collect and manage vegetation and soils data, as well as transcribe interviews. Field work will primarily occur in the scenic eastern foothills of the Wind River Range, with office work based in TNC's Lander, WY office. Ultimately, they will play an important role in achieving our goals of accelerating the pace of restoration and proactive management to maintain diverse and functional sagebrush ecosystems that support Wyoming's wildlife and people.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Organize and perform field work, both supervised and unsupervised
  • Navigate to specific locations to collect vegetation and soils data
  • Collect and manage data
  • Collect ecological geospatial data
  • Transcribe interview recordings

This is a full-time, temporary position running from mid-May through mid-September.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Associates Degree in natural resources; environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months' experience.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple source

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience identifying plants to species level in the sagebrush ecosystem.
  • Experience collecting and managing field data.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $19.60 to $21.75 for an hourly wage with a standard work week of 35 hours. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.

Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
