Position Summary
The Technical Procedure Writer plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the company’s Information Technology functions. The role is primarily responsible, under general to intermittent supervision, for composing technically focused degree in English, Writing, Communication or technical discipline preferred documentation designed for internal audiences (IT) and other various departments, as well. May assist with other IT-related projects, as needed.
Essential Functions
- Create and document processes and procedures into clear and concise language; plan, design, research, write, edit, and review each procedure/process for accuracy to ensure information is useful, including processes related to SOX compliance.
- Utilize infrastructure diagrams, flowcharts, and various other graphics when appropriate for documentation purposes, visually and written.
- Determine the best person/people to approach, including the SMEs (subject matter experts) to assist IT Managers and staff with various technical-related projects.
- Proactively and effectively engage with key stakeholders to ensure all documentation is collected; source information utilizing various techniques including observation, shadowing, and effective interviewing and listening skills.
- Identify relevant processes/procedures; validate and verify information with various stakeholders. Collaborate with others (IT and various departments) to fine-tune, redesign, or create new templates for system application documentation.
- Help develop and establish set documentation standards.
- Support Quality Assurance department by assisting with testing documentation requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as taking an active role in usability and testing.
- The Technical Writer may expand into web user-interface documentation and writing training documentation for various IT tasks.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, Communication or technical discipline preferred, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical writing related role.
- This person must be an accomplished writer who can convey complex technical concepts/solutions, information within the IT organization in a highly readable format to ensure information.
- Ability to effectively interact, collaborate and manage conflicts with others in order to complete tasks and achieve shared goals.
- Ability to analyze target audience (IT) and present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Knowledge of flow-charting.
- Demonstrated ability to learn complex concepts quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to create accurate technical documentation.
- Attention to detail with respect to grammar, spelling, and other editing errors.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities; strong detail orientation and highly organized.
- Works with a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
- Strong proficiency of PDF software programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google docs.
- Ethical, with a commitment to company values.

- Physical: Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
- Audio/Visual: Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio, e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
- Environmental: Office environment – no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
