JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Technical Publications & Training, this role is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering technical training programs for mechanics and technicians who maintain and repair Blue Bird fleets in a variety of contexts. This role ensures that personnel are well-qualified to perform their duties effectively, that maintenance standards are met, and that the safety of students and staff is maintained at all times. The ideal candidate will be a lifelong learner who thrives on learning new automotive technologies while systematically empowering others to become highly skilled service technicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop comprehensive training plans that cover all aspects of school bus diagnostics, maintenance, and repair, including but not limited to electrical systems, powertrains: diesel, gasoline, propane, and electric, as well as brakes and body repair
- Organize, Market, Plan, Deliver and Evaluate Regional Technician Training events and on-site, hands-on workshops tailored to a variety of technical training audiences to reinforce theoretical knowledge
- Create detailed curriculum and educational materials that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements; continuously update training content as necessary
- Ensure that all technicians maintain up-to-date certifications relevant to their role, facilitating recertification courses as needed and minimizing certification expirations
- Oversee and evaluate the performance of internal and external Trainers, providing guidance and feedback to improve effectiveness
- Monitor the quality of repairs and maintenance work performed by trained technicians, ensuring training programs are translating to accurate, expedited diagnoses and repairs
- Track budget for the technical training department, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effective procurement of training materials and tools
- Maintain meticulous records of training activities, attendance, and technician competencies, utilizing these data to inform future training needs and strategies
- Identify training needs and integrate best practices across the organization by working closely with other departments, such as Field Service, Manufacturing Training, Technical Publications, and Engineering, to

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proven track record of developing and administering successful technical training programs
- Strong leadership and team management skill
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to instruct and inspire participants of varying educational backgrounds
- Proficient in the use of computer software related to training development and delivery
EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in heavy vehicle maintenance, with a focus on school bus fleets ideal
- Certification as a trainer, mechanic, or technician from a recognized body is highly advantageous.
