Job Purpose
The Supervisor of Customer Meter Services is responsible for the daily supervision and organization of assigned operations personnel in order to effectively and efficiently accomplish job tasks in line with departmental and National Grid requirements. Responsible for supervising personnel in either the Field Operations or CMS team to ensure the safe and reliable maintenance and operation of the gas system, productively and cost-effectively.
The successful candidate must be prepared to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays. The successful candidate is expected to be on-call schedules and ready to respond to emergencies.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure the safety, reliability, security and integrity National Grid's gas and our gas customer's premises, consistent with Company goals, objectives, and policies, in full compliance with existing and future governmental codes and regulations.
- Protect the safety of the public, company property, and personnel through monitoring and enforcement of work methods, construction standards, and procedures for emergency response, leak investigation, and other gas maintenance, construction, and service activities.
- Lead, supervise and motivate a culturally diverse workforce through coaching, counseling, and team building to effectively and efficiently accomplish assigned and emergency job tasks.
- Effectively implement policies and procedures that ensure public safety, maximize customer satisfaction and fulfill statutory requirements while meeting or exceeding performance incentives.
- Ensure employee and job site safety through field observations and inspections of crews, equipment, and work sites.
- Efficiently schedule and secure required resources to maximum customer satisfaction and productivity while remaining fully complaint within budgetary limitations.
- Initiate and institute corrective actions and process improvements.
- Utilize labor relations skills in order to administer and interpret contract language and resolve discipline cases and grievances.
- The supervisor is expected to take and pass all Operator Qualifications for Gas Field Operations similar to the field force that they would be supervising.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Support achievement of goals including operational targets, mandated objectives, budget goals, emergency response, field collections, meter reading/AMR, investigations and safety.
- Support continual development of union workforce by conducting Safety Assessments (SUSA's), coaching, performance assessment and appraisal.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or minimum 5 years of operations-related work experience is required.
- Prior supervisory experience with Field Operations, Customer Meter Services, Construction/Contractor Oversight, Complex Construction, Instrumentation & Regulation or a related field is preferred.
- Advanced education and/or degree are considered a plus.
- Technical knowledge of the das transmission and distribution system and experience with gas construction maintenance, and service practices.
- Gas Engineering, Instrumentation & Regulation, and/or Gas Control experience is considered a plus.
- Knowledge of federal, state gas regulations including OSHA, PSC, DOT, and Pipeline Operator Qualifications, etc.
- Proven supervisory skills and ability to work effectively with others in a team environment is necessary.
- Strong knowledge of safe work practices and safety initiatives and must possess an exceptional safety record.
- Experience with Local 1049 contract and labor relation skills.

Salary - $109,000 - $128,000 a year
