Position Description
The Lead Data Visualization Engineer is responsible for designing and developing data visualizations and analytical solutions using Power BI, Azure Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric to support business decision-making. This position exists to transform complex data into meaningful, actionable insights for stakeholders across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop Data Visualizations: Design, build, and maintain dynamic and user-friendly dashboards and reports in Power BI to visualize complex data for key business stakeholders.
- Optimize Data Models: Create and optimize data models in Azure Synapse and Power BI to support high-performance, reliable reporting solutions.
- Collaborate with Data Teams: Work with data engineers to ensure smooth integration and transformation of data from multiple sources, optimizing the use of Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, and other tools.
- Implement Microsoft Fabric: Assist in implementing and maintaining Microsoft Fabric for advanced data analytics and governance capabilities.
- Enhance Reporting Capabilities: Continuously monitor and improve the performance and accuracy of Power BI reports and Azure Synapse queries to meet evolving business needs.
- Ensure Data Governance: Adhere to and enforce data governance best practices to ensure data quality, consistency, and security.
- Support Stakeholders: Provide training and ongoing support to business users for self-service analytics and BI tool usage.
- Document Processes: Create and maintain documentation for data models, ETL workflows, and visualizations.
- Stay Current with Trends: Keep up with the latest trends and updates in Azure, Power BI, and data visualization tools, and share knowledge with the team.
- Support Data-Driven Decisions: Provide ad hoc support for data queries and analysis to aid in decision-making for various departments.
- Backup and Cross-Training: Serve as a backup for other team members in the event of absence, covering essential data analysis and reporting functions.
Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in data analytics and business intelligence, specifically with Power BI. 2+ years of experience working with Azure Synapse Analytics and other Azure cloud-based tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Working knowledge of Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and report/dashboard creation.
- Thorough understanding of Azure Synapse Analytics for data modeling, ETL processes, and building data pipelines.
- General understanding of Microsoft Fabric and its role in advanced analytics.
Skills:
- Data Visualization: Expertise in translating complex data sets into intuitive, actionable visualizations using Power BI.
- SQL Proficiency: Strong skills in writing and optimizing SQL queries for data retrieval and reporting.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present insights and technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Abilities:
- Ability to design scalable, high-performance data models within Azure Synapse and Power BI.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide training to end-users.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
