We are seeking a Service Journalism Editor to join the award-winning newsroom of The Sacramento Bee to help lead our California service journalism reporting team.
Among this deputy editor’s priorities are helping to ensure our service journalism team’s local and statewide stories and videos are useful and essential, and that we are meeting our readers' curiosity and informational needs.
McClatchy’s service journalism teams are at the forefront of our digital journalism experiences that connect the news to people’s lives in an accessible way. We answer readers’ questions, we build a culture of listening and we experiment with story format, video, audio and social media.
These teams also write stories that help our readers live their best lives in their communities. This may include explaining a city’s new food compost laws, or polling readers for the best pizza in town.
Here are just a few of the California team’s recent stories:
- Sacramento has one of the least affordable housing markets in US, report says. Here's why
- Do I need a California Real ID? When's the new deadline? Here's what you need to know
- Can you apply for California unemployment benefits if you were fired from your job?
- Another Sacramento Starbucks just closed. It was first in the region to unionize
