National Grid is hiring aSenior Supervisor, Internal and External, Capital Delivery Supervisionfor Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations.
Job Purpose
The Capital Delivery Substation Senior Construction Supervisor, under the general direction of the Outsourced Substation Construction Manager, will be responsible for overseeing assigned contract work and coordinating the daily activities of assigned substation contractor crews to assure high standards of safety, quality, security, environmental compliance, while ensuring that all construction is completed in accordance with National Grid Standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate the daily activities of assigned Substation contractors performing construction, maintenance, and restoration work associated with electric utility construction projects.
- Understand assigned project scope and contract work authorization details while actively interfacing with the project team to ensure safe and timely job completion.
- Document contract crew activities, prepare and present periodic oral and written update reports as needed, and verify the accuracy of contractor change order requests. Report on job progress utilizing a web-based reporting database as required.
- Work with other supervisors and departments to review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and survey site locations for constructability considerations.
- Attend project meetings and facilitate site visits as requested.
- Ensure that safe and reliable construction activities are consistent with company objectives and policies while maintaining compliance with existing and relevant emerging government codes and regulations.
- Verify completeness and enforce compliance with Contractor produced project specific health and safety plans (HASP).
- Identify and document any safety/environmental Incidents and Near Misses/Good Catches in the Incident Management System (IMS).
- Conduct contractor orientations and/or pre-construction meetings as required, and maintain documentation as specified in the Pre-Construction Meeting Guidelines within the Safety Policy and Procedures.
- Encourage and foster a safe and "continuous improvement" field work environment in a performance-based culture.
- Ensure that company guidelines and procedures, standards, and environmental and safety regulations are consistently adhered to. Maintain compliance with all applicable Federal, state, local, and National Grid guidelines, laws and regulations.
- Perform inspections and quality assurance regarding contractor activities to ensure compliance with Company specifications, practices, standards, operating procedures, policies and contract documents.
- Perform "Contractor Performance Evaluations" in the Incident Management System (IMS), documenting both positive and negative safety performance and behaviors.
- Monitor and audit the completion and accuracy of all required forms, records, reports, and support documentation associated with projects.
- Confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start.
Qualifications
- Minimum two-year technical degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5 to 10 years relevant Sub Station construction experience in all aspects of electric utility operations.
- Strong knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, local, company safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret job cards, prints, specifications, drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, instructional information and contract documents.
- Must have thorough understanding of substation construction principles and the hazards associated with overhead and underground electrical circuits, clearances with associated civil work and possess strong understanding of OSHA 1910.269 and 1926 construction standards.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of company maintenance practices, safe work practices, tagging rules and labor contracts.
- Ability to develop and administer a strong Safety culture.
- Hands-on experience with completion of challenging field construction work.
- Ability to complete training and certification requirements needed to become an Authorized Person to request and hold Clearances, Non-Reclose Assurances, and other Clearance and Control governed activities
- Maintain a non-restricted driver's license.
- Able to travel throughout the service territory and willing to work extended hours when job requires and for system emergencies (Storm Restoration Duties).
- Licensed Electrician certification a plus

Salary - $123,000 - $145,000
