Position Summary
The Safety Specialist will implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations for New River Electrical. This position will report to the Safety Supervisor.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Assist with the completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Assist with the completion of all clients required training/orientation for both safety and environmental.
- Regularly conducts mandatory Safety and Health training.
- Conduct and provide oversight for accident/incident investigations and complete reports to be uploaded into clients' internal portal.
- Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
- Conduct safety inspections, observations, and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Complete accident and incident investigations to identify root cause(s) and develops corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Qualifications
- At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.
- Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Extensive knowledge in electrical transmission and distribution construction, preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, and/or professional certification (CSP, CUSP, etc.), preferred.
- Travel for this position is mostly limited to Baltimore, MD and DC areas. Overnight stays could be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and give speeches in a public setting and have good hearing and listening skills. The employee is required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. The employee must have good overall health and work into the evening hours when the situation requires.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. The hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but could include night and weekend activity, based on circumstances.
