Job Summary
This position is located in Des Moines, IA. This requires in person work in the Des Moines, IA schools and community or in a physical project office.
The School of Social Work is seeking a Research Technician to assist a senior faculty member and her project team. This role will report directly to the faculty member and assist with various tasks related to organization, scheduling, planning, and operations.
Research on this project broadly focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of violence prevention and response initiatives among structurally minoritized populations. This faculty member has many grants and needs a research technician to provide support across a number of these grants. Responsibilities of the research technician include supporting research efforts in close coordination with project management team, including general assistance with conducting literature reviews; editing and adapting research protocols/materials; programming Qualtrics surveys; assisting with participant recruitment, enrollment, and retention; data entry and basic data management; editing manuscripts; and managing reference database.
Responsibilities*
- Interaction with the research team and research participants.
- Will carry-out decisions made by the research team. Some autonomy is required to problem-solve when interacting with research participants.
- Supporting research efforts in close coordination with the project management team - Literature reviews, data entry, making spreadsheets, taking notes at meetings, executing various research tasks assigned by project managers/coordinators.
- Editing and adapting research protocols/materials.
- Programming Qualtrics surveys.
- Assisting with participant recruitment, enrollment, and retention - The project coordinators/managers will put systems in place. This individual will help execute it by calling/emailing/etc. participants, helping post ads, etc.
- Assist with data entry and basic data management.
- Editing manuscripts and updating reference databases.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social sciences or related field plus one year of experience working in a research laboratory; or equivalent combination of education/experience considered.
- Knowledge of basic social sciences/behavioral research.
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office products
- Experience with data entry with close attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be highly organized and conscientious.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Able to problem-solve and work collaboratively with the research team while also having the ability to work independently on tasks.
Desired Qualifications*
Master's degree in psychology, education, social sciences or related field plus three years' experience working on interpersonal violence research and/or research focused on program development and evaluation. Experience programming online surveys is also a plus.
