Our work, supported by the NSF, NIH, and private foundations, focuses on uncovering how nutrients and metabolites influence health and disease in the context of neural, metabolic, and developmental diseases using invertebrate and vertebrate model systems.

Responsibilities*
The candidate must have previous research experience in molecular, developmental biology, and/or neuroscience. Experience with animal models, confocal microscopy, and molecular biology techniques (RNA, qPCR, western) is preferred. The successful applicant will design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments, record and analyze the resulting data, and organize the data for publication. They must be curious to learn and develop new knowledge and skills to establish new experimental protocols and contribute to completing project goals. They will participate in lab meetings and oversee/mentor junior researchers in the lab.
Specific responsibilities:
20% effort: Lab administrative/organizational work - ordering, inventory, keeping track of expenditures, interacting with lab safety, collecting packages, setting up, and maintaining equipment. Training and supervising undergraduate students who maintain animals.
70% effort: Conduct experiments. The research will involve molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy, tissue dissections, behavior, metabolical assays, and Drosophila husbandry. Analyze data with complex statistical and computational software for fly behavior. Write up results with postdocs and students; aid with making figures for publication.
10% effort: Mentorship and supervision of rotating or full-time graduate students.
Required Qualifications*
- Master degree, doctoral preferred, in molecular or cell biology (degrees in neuroscience are also acceptable with significant experience in molecular and cellular techniques).
- 5 to 6 years of related experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to drive a research project and think independently.
- Proficiency in modern molecular genetics and associated bioinformatics.
- Experience with confocal imaging and live cell imaging.
- A strong commitment to remain in an academic research setting.

Additional Information
