Job Summary
The project's goal is to develop key analytical and experimental foundations for improving power quality in modern renewable energy based power systems. The proposed technique is to use magnetic flux in power transformer's iron core to address power quality concerns, specially harmonics, which would be easier to implement, more efficient and more reliable. The student's role will be assisting in the design, testing, and optimization of the power quality improvement system, as well as writing reports and research papers.
Responsibilities*
1. Lab Setup and Maintenance:
- Organize and maintain lab space and equipment
- Ensure a safe, clean lab environment
2. Simulation and Experimentation:
- Conduct simulations and experiments
- Collect and analyze data accurately
3. Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare lab reports and assist in writing research papers
- Maintain detailed records of all research activities
4. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with team members and attend project meetings
- Communicate findings and incorporate feedback
5. Literature Review:
- Perform literature reviews to support research efforts
Required Qualifications*
1. Educational Background:
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the College of Innovation and Technology
- Strong understanding of electric circuits and circuit theory
2. Technical and Research Skills:
- Familiarity with simulation software (Matlab) and lab equipment
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation; familiarity with data analysis tools
3. Communication and Writing:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and teamwork
4. Problem-Solving and Collaboration:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting and manage research documentation
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of MichiganPositions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Additional Information
Graduate students will have a limited temp appointment and then may become a GSRA if this position is continued through the winter semester.
