Job Summary

The research applications programmer will support a highly interactive research team in the Michigan Kidney Translational Medicine Core (MiKTMC), Department of Nephrology at the University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine.  We serve as the data coordinating center for several ongoing, multi-site studies which collect data and samples from patients with rare kidney disease and support multiple core and ancillary research studies of that leverage these unique resources.

Our team aims to improve the care of patients with rare kidney disease by collaborating with researchers at Michigan and around the world to better understand the causes and treatments of these diseases.

We are looking for an individual who has a strong background in machine learning, programming languages, and statistical methods.

Responsibilities*

The Research Applications Programmer/Analyst will be able to conduct the following activities, independently, with minimum guidance and oversight:

  • Data Preparation and visualization 
  • Data Collection and Reporting 
  • Other tasks 

Required Qualifications*

  • Ability to work with large, complex data sets 
  • Proficient in statistics and coding software (SAS, R, SQL etc)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively such that various audiences receiving the communication can understand.  

Intermediate Level Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • 3 to 5 years systems analysis/programming activities in a business environment.

Senior Level Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 
  • 5 to 7 years of systems analysis/programming in a business environment. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters degree required
  • Prior RedCap Experience (or other EHR capturing software) 
  • Experience working with groups to meet a common goal. 

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Flexible Work Arrangements: As part of the University of Michigans Future Work Initiative this position should plan to work a hybrid schedule (both remote and on campus).

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
