The Project Coordinator plays a crucial role in guaranteeing that the pipeline assets built by both our internal and external teams are the backbone of our Company's success, delivering safe and reliable gas service to millions of customers. This position at Southern Company Gas is essential for ensuring our pipeline assets are constructed with a focus on safety, quality, compliance, and efficiency.
Please note, this position is posted as a job family and can be filled at a Project Coordinator, I (Level 3), Project Coordinator, II (Level 4) or Project Coordinator, III (Level 5). Individuals who exhibit advanced proficiency through their work experience, education, and certifications may qualify for the higher grade.

As our Project Coordinator, a typical day might include:
- Provides oversight of natural gas transmission and distribution infrastructure construction projects
- Analyzes costs, benefits for specific construction projects, and evaluates alternatives to ensure cost effectiveness of construction projects.
- Maintains customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with individual customers, municipalities, and other governmental agencies at pre-con meetings and throughout the project (such as state DOTs, counties, etc.)
- Contributes to the achievement of a project’s safety, quality, financial, and schedule goals

Required
- 0 years of industrial construction experience with related degree
- 2 years of industrial construction experience with no degree
- Vocational degree or certificate in a technical field preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Basic MS Word, Excel, Outlook
- Basic interpretation of design drawings and specifications
- Basic knowledge of piping construction techniques and welding
Project Coordinator, II
Required
- 2 years of industrial construction, engineering or operations
- 4 years of industrial construction experience with no degree
- Demonstrated success in project coordination on small industrial construction projects
- Demonstrated success in supporting large projects $10MM-$50MM
- Ability to lead small projects up to $5MM
- Valid driver’s license
- Basic construction management and contract administration, and construction safety
- Basic MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and internal cost management and work management systems
- Basic knowledge of gas industry and OSHA regulations and their impact on construction processes
- Intermediate knowledge of piping construction techniques, welding, fusion; basic knowledge of NDE, excavation, compaction, coating, inspection, pressure testing, pigging/cleaning
Project Coordinator, III
Required
- 4 years of industrial construction, engineering or operations
- 6 years of experience with no degree
- Demonstrated success in project coordination on medium to large industrial construction projects
- Demonstrated success in leading small projects up to $5MM
- Valid driver’s license
- Intermediate construction management, contract administration, and construction safety; basic CPM scheduling
- Intermediate MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, GIS, and internal cost management and work management systems
- Effective written and verbal communication with supervision, contractors, inspectors, public, management, and company leadership
- Intermediate knowledge of gas industry and OSHA regulations and their impact on construction processes
- Intermediate knowledge of piping construction techniques, welding, fusion NDE, excavation, compaction, coating, inspection, pressure testing, pigging/cleaning; basic knowledge of tapping/stopping, purging, flow interruption
- This is a field-based position and work location is variable based on the location of the project.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- The Project Coordinator may be required to be on the job site during construction hours. Long workdays and weekend work may be required. Periods of night shift work may be required.
- Standing and/or walking construction sites for long periods of time may be required.
- Lifting objects up to 50lbs maybe required.
- Driving a Company vehicle for long trips or commutes may be required.
- Overnight travel may be required up to 50% of the time.
- Working in all types of weather conditions may be required.
- Climbing in and out of excavations, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders to inspect pipeline construction activity may be required.
- Walking on changing elevation and/or uneven surfaces may be required.
Other Details:
- Relocation packages are not available for this position. Incumbent must be located within the service territory or be able to self-relocate to the service territory.
