Purpose Statement
Rich's currently has a great opportunity for a Packaging Engineer Co-op, for 6-8 months, starting in summer 2025 through December 2025. This position is in the Research & Development department, located in Buffalo, New York. This opportunity will allow you to work in a fast-paced environment, developing innovative packaging solutions for our wide range of products. Projects range from low to high complexity and will include interaction with other R&D technical associates, packaging suppliers and cross functional team members. This opportunity is available to a student who wants to take on new challenges and seeks to gain a practical knowledge of packaging engineering through hands-on experience in a collaborative environment.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
* Assist in coordinating new product packaging design (including changes to existing products) with Product R&D, Sales, Marketing, and Operations
* Assign raw material codes and write specs for packaging materials
* Actively work to identify packaging cost savings opportunities and calculate potential savings
* Work with external suppliers and internal cross-functional team to generate innovative packaging design solutions
* Participate in various project teams throughout the organization; will be required to provide updates and presentations
* Composition and maintenance of packaging specifications, related test methods, and testing SOPs
* Perform hands-on lab testing of packaging components and write test reports
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Pursuing a degree in Packaging Science or Packaging Engineering field
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Analytical and technical proficiencies with packaging materials, processes and systems
* Self-motivated, positive attitude, organized and ability to adapt to changing priorities
* Computer skills: Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and CAPE/TOPS package design software
* Technical Skills: Capable of performing various packaging tests using lab equipment: compression testing, tensile testing, drop testing, etc.
COMPENSATION
In accordance with state law, the rate or range provided is Rich Products Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates ("Rich's"), reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, shift differential, and location.
