Full Job Description
Newsroom Internship-Bismarck, ND
The Bismarck Tribune, the Lee Enterprises Inc. newspaper in the capital city of North Dakota and the state's second largest city is seeking applicants for a 10-week news internship over the summer. Bismarck and neighboring Mandan are along the Missouri River with miles of trails for outdoor recreation along with a growing food and culture scene. The region also offers prime hunting and fishing opportunities and is an easy drive to a national park.
Qualified candidates should be inquisitive self-starters who are capable of producing compelling content for our digital and print platforms. Interns should feel empoweredto find and pitch great stories about our increasingly diverse communities. We want multitaskers who can juggle multiple assignments and embrace all facets of multimedia storytelling. We will provide an atmosphere of collaboration and support for all interns.
Interns will work alongside professional journalists in our newsroom, who will provide guidance, direction and support. Interns will receive customized training on topics such as how to develop sources, how to prioritize diversity and inclusion in news coverage and how to pitch a great story. They'll also have access to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists who are part of the Lee Enterprises network of 72 news markets across the U.S.
Qualified applicants should be enrolled in college or be recent college graduates. They also should have either completed at least one previous internship in a media market, or comparable work for a college news outlet.
Exceptional interns will be considered for full-time, permanent employment at the conclusion of the program.
Interns should have their own transportation and valid driver license to travel to assignments and must be available to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
