  • Teaching statement 
  • Explanation of the teaching evaluation system and where you fall in quantitative system; summaries of evaluations involving ratings as well as student comments can be included; similarly, summaries should be provided for peer evaluations of teaching evaluations (if applicable)
  • Research statement (includes a statement of impact of applicant's work in the first paragraph)
  • Service statement
  • Three (3) to five (5) publications of your best work (peer-reviewed), with emphasis on the most recent or most representative

Responsibilities*

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) invites applications from individuals with a distinguished record of accomplishment to fill the Mary Lou Willard French Endowed Professorship. The School of Nursing seeks a senior faculty member who will focus his/her research on nursing care for cancer patients and their families. The recipient of the endowed professorship will be an accomplished scientist/scholar with demonstrated competence in funded research, leadership in interdisciplinary investigative teams as well as oncology nursing, and mentoring of junior scientists. The applicant will work closely with the University of Michigan School of Nursing faculty, the Michigan Medicine Rogel Cancer Center and national/international cancer funding sources.

This position is anticipated to be filled during the 2025-2026 academic year. We are soliciting applications from leading scholars in oncology nursing research. All people, including those who belong to groups underrepresented in nursing, are encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications*

  • PhD in Nursing.
  • Expertise in oncology nursing.
  • For nursing PhD's, a current MI nursing license is required or eligibility for a nursing license in the State of Michigan.
  • Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s) and/or research site(s).
  • Record of first-author, databased, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in scholarly activity. 
  • Ability to promote the School of Nursing's Declaration of Values to Empower each other to interrupt or disrupt disrespect; Practice communication that is beneficial, kind and true; Inspire and be inspired by our members worth, significance and integrity; Cultivate respect for ourselves and others routinely, publicly and privately.

Additional Qualifications for the rank of Associate Professor:

  • Record of excellence in teaching.
  • Distinguished record of scholarly attainment in the realm of scientific investigation, publication, and utilization of research findings in teaching, research, and service.
  • A reputation among colleagues for outstanding achievements and recognized contributions in their field of expertise.
  • An admirable record of academic, professional and community service. 

Additional Qualifications for the rank of Professor:

  • Sustained record of excellence in teaching, including experience with advanced students; 
  • Sustained and growing record of scholarly eminence, which advances the frontier of knowledge;
  • A reputation among the candidate's colleagues and peers throughout the nation and preferably internationally for outstanding and continuing achievements in their field of expertise.
  • A reputation, supported by documented external evaluation, which recognizes the presence of leadership and the quality of research activities, publications, and contributions to the profession in comparison with other professors.
  • A continuing record of recognized accomplishments in academic, professional and community service.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
