As an Engineering Manager at Premera, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for architecting, delivering, and supporting applications and technologies that support our business and provide value to our customers. As a leader, you will be responsible for motivating and inspiring your teams to build creative and innovative solutions to healthcare problems and opportunities.
This is a hybrid role, with some onsite days required. You must live within driving distance of our Mountlake Terrace campus, located about 15 miles north of Seattle, Washington.
What you’ll do:
Hire, mentor, coach, and lead a team of engineers to deliver on short and long-term organizational goals.
Guide and support the engineering team throughout the entire product/service life cycle from ideation, design, build, test, and deploy, as well as the on-going run, grow, and transform activities.
Identify and execute on opportunities to mature SecDevOps engineering practices through automation, continuous code deployment, and integrated security.
Drive continuous improvement by championing modern engineering practices such as configuration/infrastructure as code and automated testing with a goal to provide consistency, quality, and reduced time to market.
Drive, execute, and lead your teams with a relentless 'Focus on Customer' - always looking for ways to improve the customer experience.
Lead with an ownership and data driven mentality with a focus on monitoring and instrumenting all aspects of application/services and infrastructure.
Communicate effectively with teams across the enterprise by fostering an open and collaborative environment at all levels.
Continually reassess and challenge the status quo and champion innovative solutions. Keep abreast of technical best practices and standards while leading change and adoption of new processes and technologies.
Identify, plan, and execute technical priorities relevant to the life cycle management of the team’s products/services.
Resolve impediments and align priorities with the team across the enterprise as well as with external groups and partners.
Act as a technical and business leader sharing knowledge and expertise on business case development, Requests for Proposal (RFP), and vendor negotiation activities.
Accountable for ensuring that the team adheres to Premera's System/Software/Secure Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile Practices, and Engineering Standards.
Manage multiple deliverables and partner across the enterprise to influence direction, decisions, and priorities as needed. Identify risks to successful execution across all departments. Ensure timely resolution of issues within area of responsibility.
What you’ll bring:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or (4) years of experience in information technology.
(6) years of experience in information technology, application development, system administration/engineering, or systems development, which includes previous program or team leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications (S&E)
Experience with C#/.NET.
Experience with Microsoft Azure.
Experience in leading and mentoring individuals and teams.
Preferred Qualifications (Platform)
Experience with client computing applications and desktop virtualization.
Experience with routers and switches, firewall services, cable management, WAN/LAN technology, and communications protocols using the Open Systems Interconnection Model (OSI).
Experience with current server hardware and software for managing computer storage and database.
Experience with current database technologies and services including database virtualization.
Experience with contact center systems and VOIP technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledgeable in software/system design, development, administration, and testing in Cloud/Hybrid environments.
Ability to leverage metrics to influence business decisions. Possess proven budget and vendor management abilities.
Hands on experience in building applications and services using public cloud offerings (Azure, AWS, Google).
Knowledge of different application hosting options such as Containers as a Service (CaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
Deep understanding and experience with DevOps concepts and their implementation.
Experience working in an Agile environment.
Knowledge of various development methodologies and their proper application.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to understand shared goals and objectives. Ability to set short and long-term department goals that align with overall IT organizational direction.
Proven track record of delivering high quality products and services resulting in highly satisfied customers. Experience collaborating with vendors to deliver on business needs.
Knowledge of ITIL and IT Service Management. Understanding of ITIL Foundations including Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
Ability to build successful engineering teams and manage and retain high performing talent.
Demonstrated ability to plan work for teams, manage workload balance, and have a proven track record of delivering results.
Proven ability to develop effective relationships and to work at all levels of the company including senior and executive management. Experience working effectively across divisional lines in a complex, multi-site organization.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.
National Salary Range:
$112,900.00 - $191,900.00National Plus Salary Range:
$128,700.00 - $218,800.00*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
