SUMMARY: The Major Gift Officer, Athletics will serve as a strategic fundraising partner for the Vice President of Advancement and the Director of Athletics. This position reports to the Associate Vice President University Advancement and has a dotted line to the Director of Athletics, emphasizing close collaboration with the athletics office. This role will strive to achieve ambitious goals in pursuit of the Athletic Departments fundraising priorities. The Major Gift Officer, Athletics is responsible for planning and implementing a program of identification, cultivation and solicitation of individual major gift, planned gift, and partnership prospects, partnering with the Director of Athletics on high-level major donor strategies, supporting coaching staff with fundraising skills and case development, and serving in a supervisory role for the Director of the Royals Club. Candidates for this position should have experience engaging with a variety of constituencies including alumni, parents of student-athletes and community partners in the development of meaningful and productive relationships and highly skilled in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.

This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:- Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Advancement, Director of Athletics, coaches, and University Advancement staff to align fundraising initiatives with institutional priorities in support of an operational fundraising plan for Queens Athletics
- Design, develop and implement purposeful strategies, plans, and tactics for discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, for major gift and planned gift donors with an emphasis on completing 75+ personal donor visits per year.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects to include charting plans and timetable for each prospect to include cultivation, involvement, solicitation, and appropriate stewardship.
- Supervises and sets fundraising performance targets for Director of the Royals Club.
- Solicit gifts through personal and virtual visits, proposal presentations, follow-up telephone calls, and coordinated written correspondence.
- Draft proposals and gift agreements for major gift prospects
- Ensure proper stewardship of contributions by maintaining accurate donor records, tracking progress, and reporting on fundraising outcomes.
- Represent Queens University at athletic events, community gatherings, and other university functions to enhance donor engagement and visibility.
- Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in athletic fundraising to ensure innovative and effective approaches.
- Represent Queens University of Charlotte at Athletics events, community gatherings, and other university functions to enhance donor engagement and visibility.
- Track activities in Slate Advancement for each prospect.
- Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and university needs.
- Five+ years experience in higher education fundraising. Demonstrated experience in a higher ed athletics advancement setting preferred. Management experience preferred.
- Proven success in goal achievement for operational, capital and endowment fund development.
- Demonstrated accomplishment in the acquisition of major and planned gifts from individuals.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and an understanding of collegiate athletic fundraising best practices is preferred.
- Exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control large and small projects through to completion.
- Collaborative work style, as well as ability to work independently.
- Must thrive in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to quickly learn and assimilate new systems and information. Experience with CRM software preferred.
