KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Owns mechanical and electrical equipment in their respective department.
- Drives out losses (failures and breakdowns) within equipment and department.
- Understands all inputs and outputs to the department.
- Works well with operating technicians to flow to the work.
- Trains technicians on operations and maintenance skills
- Signs permits for hot work, line break, and confined space entry.
- Back-up / Fill-in for an operational role if needed.
- Participates in Plant Safety Systems.
- Participates in Change Management and the Plant Improvement System
- Continues to train and improve within department, cross trains with other maintenance resources.
- On call to provide off shift support as needs arise
- Provides input to team leader regarding mechanical and electrical efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Understands all unit operations in the Industrial area and can explain form and function.
- Must qualify to operate all production equipment and systems.
- Meets with Education & Training Coordinators to understand the Plant policies and systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Able to troubleshoot and repair the following electrical, instrumentation, controls, and mechanical systems:
- Power distribution motor control centers (MCC).
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) / Human Machine Interface (HMI).
- Variable Frequency Drive / Servo Drives / Instrumentation.
- Ethernet Controls / Networking / Switches.
- Motor Starters / Input Output (I/O) Systems / AC / DC Voltage.
- Steam supply and condensate return systems.
- Centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, valves, piping systems.
- Gear boxes, bearings, shafts, mechanical seals. Shaft packing materials.
- Hydraulic lifting and rotational systems.
- Heat exchangers and condensing equipment.
- Exhibits a positive attitude; eager to teach and learn.
- Behaves as a role model for Mechanical, Electrical, and General Plant Safety.
- Participates in Quality Systems.
- Exhibits strong communication skills (able to communicate with all members of the Plant).
- Exhibits strong troubleshooting skills.
- Displays strong documentation skills.
- Displays technical expertise in hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop tools.
- Demonstrates PM completion, tracking, and developing skills.
- Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education/Experience
- High-school degree or equivalent is required.
- A two-year degree or technical degree is preferred.
Other
- Minimum age of 18
- At least five years of previous manufacturing / technical experience OR a technical degree is required.
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, GMP's and general instructions as well as carry out both oral and written instruction.
- Work consistently with a team and demonstrate conflict resolution, problem solving, time management, goal setting, priority setting and process improvement.
- Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described below represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and duties of this job.
- required to stand and lift frequently.

- required to stand and walk at minimum 70% of the time.
- must be able to work 12-hour shifts.
- must be able to work any shift (day or night) including weekends and holidays if a business need arises.
- must occasionally lift/push/pull or carry up to fifty (50) pounds and should be able to lift 30-35 pounds on a frequent basis.
- must be able to squat or kneel and to bend on a frequent basis.
- must be able to tolerate exposure to food allergens.
- must be able to climb steps on a frequent basis as well as stand on or move around on platforms, equipment, and concrete floors.
