Maintenance Technician
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Properly install, repair or service machinery, equipment, and support systems as required.
- Work directly with production associates and management to problem-solve and correct production issues that will ensure maximum production efficiencies.
- Properly trouble-shoot and maintain production lines and/or processing equipment.
- Properly perform all necessary maintenance tasks to production lines (i.e. rebuilds, welding, valve, pipe and solenoid selection, etc.)
- Properly develop and implement preventive maintenance systems for all production equipment and/or processing equipment.
- Execute predictive and preventative maintenance practices for all production equipment.
- Perform systematic preventative maintenance, including electrical or mechanical adjustments, inspections and minor repairs.
- In a timely manner, identify and correct potential equipment problems.
- Use computer and associated software on PLC's to troubleshoot and correct equipment issues.
- Properly perform all shift requirements.
- Actively assist with planning/scheduling and storeroom staff for CMMS tracking: work orders, parts, purchase requisitions.
- Identify and assist in the implementation of projects as required.
- Communicate clearly and concisely to others, both verbally and in writing.
- Provide input for yearly renewal of training skills for self and others.
- Develop, complete and maintain accurate shift/departmental maintenance records.
- Possess basic electrical knowledge. Ability to size conduits, wiring, thermal overloads, and starters. Able to check voltage, amperage, and continuity with a multi-meter. Able to read electrical diagrams.
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and make recommendations of plant utilities equipment.
- Gain understanding of the principles of Thermodynamics and how it affects ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems.
- Manage predictive and preventive maintenance practices on facilities support equipment such as boilers, ammonia compressors, air compressors, and water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Perform water treatment tests to maintain and operate condenser cooling towers and associated equipment.
- Properly perform all necessary maintenance to refrigeration, air, water, wastewater, and boiler systems (including rebuilds, welding, valve repair, plumbing, and solenoid selection).
- Develop and fulfill maintenance check-sheets.
- Understand all plant and department safety and operational rules.
- Explain and demonstrate job tasks to all internal and external visitors.
- Use/read measuring instruments including inside micrometers, Calipers, Volt/amp meters to perform job tasks.
- Ensure that all security procedures are followed.
- Participate in corrective action programs and processes.
- Read, understand, and comply with MSDS sheets.
- Work overtime hours and weekends as required.
- Perform welding tasks as required.
- Work a flexible and rotating work schedule to meet demands of peak volume.
- Work in compliance with all OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Keep all work areas clean.
- Actively participate in the company's food safety and quality programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive maintenance background which may include hydraulics, controls, welding, electrical, PLC's, and pneumatics.
- Maintenance experience in boilers, refrigeration (preferably anhydrous ammonia), air compressors, electrical systems, plant fire protection system and hydraulics. Ability to troubleshoot maintenance-related problems.
- Able to understand and follow instructions concisely. Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Able to read diagrams, blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to recognize defective parts.
- Ability to distinguish machine sounds, to detect potential mechanical issues.
- Able to move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work on multiple levels, such as catwalks, ladders, etc. and ability to work in extreme temperatures.
- Ability to visually identify defective parts.
- Ability to hear machine operations sounds to detect defective parts, machine failures, and changes in speed and other routine running conditions. Must have strong problem solving skill, and the ability to work efficiently under stressful situations.
- Perform all essential job skills.
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required. Must be able to use a computer and associated software programs.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of Quality, Service and Cost objectives.
