Job Summary

The Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Center (MADC) is seeking a full-time Research Area Specialist Associate to support the Neuroimaging Core and join its dedicated research team. This position is based at the MADC in Ann Arbor, where staff parking is provided free of charge. Regular work hours are Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

The MADC is an NIH-funded research center focused on conducting and supporting Alzheimer's disease and related dementia research. A key aim of the center's research is to work with underrepresented communities to address racial and ethnic disparities in Alzheimer?s disease and related dementias. The center also spans beyond research by promoting state-of-the-art care and wellness for individuals and families affected by dementia and increasing dementia awareness through education and outreach across the state.

We are seeking a positive, highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual with excellent multi-tasking and record-keeping skills. The successful candidate will work closely with principal investigators, senior research staff, and other team members to contribute to a wide range of neuroimaging research projects. This role requires an independent, autonomous approach to assist with clinical research coordination and project management. As the scope and priorities of the research evolve, the responsibilities of this position may also adapt to meet new research needs.

Responsibilities*

Research Coordination & Project Management:

  • Coordinate and manage multiple imaging-related research projects, including MRI and PET studies, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between imaging teams and stakeholders, answering questions and providing guidance on imaging acquisition and research protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Neurology, Neuropsychology, and MADC cores to meet project objectives.

Participant Management:

  • Schedule and manage participant interactions, including consent, safety screenings, and the de-metal process prior to scans.
  • Obtain medical documentation to determine participant eligibility for imaging studies and ensure approval by the lab as needed.
  • Transport participants between U-M research sites in U-M leased vehicles when required.

Data Collection & Management:

  • Collect, process, and ensure quality control for research data related to imaging activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of research procedures, monitor data quality, and perform data entry in compliance with established protocols.

Training & Staff Support:

  • Train and instruct new and existing staff on imaging-related work processes and protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to streamline daily work processes and increase efficiency.

Administrative & Regulatory Support:

  • Assist with imaging-related budgets, billing, and participant incentive payments.
  • Support the preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, including amendments and ongoing reviews, and maintain accurate regulatory documentation.
  • Provide additional administrative support as needed by the Core and Center.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in research or imaging-related projects.
  • Previous experience with clinical data collection, chart abstraction, and/or data entry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in training or mentoring staff.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters degree in a related field
  • Experience in a healthcare or imaging/radiology setting.
  • Familiarity with MiChart, REDCap, and Microsoft 365.
  • Previous experience with budget management and regulatory processes.
  • Experience with research grant applications and/or manuscript preparation.
