Reporting to the Director of Technology, this position will be accountable for the success of SMTD concert and event live streaming. This is a hands-on position, and the successful candidate will have the responsibility to manage all technical aspects of live streaming events. The streaming specialist will train and manage a team of student staff who assist in the operation of live streams.
Responsibilities*
Live Streaming (80%)
- Oversee live streaming requests and manage the SMTD live stream schedule.
- Manage all aspects of streaming event(s); deliver, set up, test, and operate streaming, A/V, and digital media equipment for concerts and events across SMTD and at other locations as needed.
- Quickly identify and resolve technical issues during live broadcasts to minimize disruptions. Implement backup solutions and contingency plans for potential streaming issues.
- Manage SMTD equipment used for student DIY streaming; provide training and documentation for users as needed.
- Edit and archive live streams for future use and educational purposes.
- Collaborate with SMTDs marketing and social media teams to promote live events and performances. Analyze live stream metrics and generate performance reports to inform future broadcasts.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to improve the quality and impact of future live streams. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in streaming technology, especially those relevant to performing arts.
- Responsible for performing maintenance and upgrades to the streaming equipment that is installed in each SMTD venue, as well as portable equipment. Maintain inventory of SMTD equipment.
- Serve as a member of the SMTD Events Committee.
Student Staff Training & Supervision (20%)
- Ensure proper staffing for supported SMTD events, coordinating student workers as needed.
- Hire, train, and supervise student workers. Approve time cards.
Required Qualifications*
- A bachelor's degree is required or equivalent work experience. Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience delivering high quality live streaming, broadcasting, or digital content creation, preferably within a performing arts or educational setting.
- Demonstrated work experience successfully developing technology solutions for virtual events. Familiarity with audio and video equipment, including cameras, microphones, switchers, and encoders, especially in performance environments is essential.
- Proficiency with live streaming software and hardware platforms. Understanding of network configurations and internet bandwidth requirements for streaming. Experience with video editing software.
- Must have excellent communication and teamwork skills and have the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and problem solve quickly and efficiently.
- This position routinely moves audio/visual equipment weighing up to 50lbs across campus for various event and streaming needs.
- This position involves traveling to various locations on and off campus to deliver equipment and stream events.
- Must have the ability to work nights/evenings on site as needed to fully support events.
Desired Qualifications*
- Basic knowledge of classical music and jazz concert programming and performance practices.
- Knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Experience managing a team of employees (in particular student / part-time staff)
- Experience in a high-performance or high-visibility environment.
