Estimating Manager Responsibilities

Overview
Estimating the cost of the project is the basic step in ensuring the successful implementation of the proposed plans of action for any project. Estimating manager responsibilities is significant in ensuring the growth and success of any organization. They are responsible for estimating the project's cost and assisting in determining the cost of the product or service that will be manufactured.
Principal Responsibilities: Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop estimating processes to ensure accurate and consistent results.
- Participate in bid management activities.
- Review and complete bid forms, ensuring compliance with specifications.
- Evaluate bids and provide pricing promptly.
- Conceptualize project layouts and review estimates before submission.
- Monitor bid results and update the bid register.
- Maintain professional client relationships.
- Provide leadership for improving estimating processes by analyzing estimates, identifying irregularities, and checking accuracies.
- Oversee estimating functions and activities within the estimation department.
- Confer with engineers, architects, subcontractors, contractors, and providers regarding cost estimate adjustments or changes and determine project feasibility.
- Research previous data on subcontracts and purchase orders, compile relevant reports, and develop guidelines for future estimates.
- Determine the scope of work and contents of project estimates by preparing a list of bid quantities and items.
- Calculate statistical data, material prices, labor costs, equipment expenses, etc.
- Obtain quotations and review, analyze, and recommend subcontractors and vendors.
- Review staff conversion rates.
- Monitor estimating staff to ensure compliance with bid procedures.
- Review and develop bid assemblies to increase speed and accuracy.
- Update pricing databases routinely.
- Supervise estimating staff.
- Organize files and download bid documents.
- Create labels on drawings and assign estimates.
- Review specifications and invite subcontractors to bid.
- Arrange pre-bid meeting attendance and manage quotes.
- Update folders with addenda, RFI responses, and messages.
- Create slip sheets for revised drawings.
- Follow up with subcontractors and prepare bid packages.
- Ensure all requirements are complete and request bid bonds.
- Complete and send pre-qualification requests promptly.
- Degree in a related discipline (Drafting, Technical Communication, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, etc.).
- Excellent graphic, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and to set priorities and manage competing demands while working independently.
- Demonstrate a reliable, responsive, and positive work ethic with the highest degree of integrity.
- Extremely detail-oriented with recognition of the importance of clear, concise, consistent documentation.
- Working knowledge of drawing production, standard construction techniques and principles.
