The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) invites applications for the position of HR Assistant. The HR Assistant is a key player of a strategic Human Resources team and an important liaison to various units on the campus, delivering optimal customer service. The HR Assistant acts as the first point of contact for all human resources inquiries, and serves as a resource to campus constituents on human resources procedures, and practices.
Responsibilities*
- Provide mainly in person reception and serve as the first point of contact responding to initial HR questions and requests and directing employees to appropriate resources
- Support hiring process for the campus, including faculty, regular and temporary staff appointments and transactions
- Post and maintain job openings in eRecruit
- Complete background checks for new employees
- Primary responsibility for I-9 Employment Verification forms for temporary and regular employees and back up for E-verify processing
- Process other HR transactions as needed as back up to HR Assistant Senior (tuition support forms, PeoplePay etc.)
- Collaborate with departments campus wide for assistance with job postings, applicants, and resume gathering/ redacting
- Schedule job interviews and prepare interview materials for HR Consultants (as needed)
- Manage and edit Dearborn Human Resources website as primary content editor
Other HR Projects
- Assist with data compilation and organization of campus-wide results (ie, Staff Satisfaction Survey Results)
- Create and administer Qualtrics surveys
- Review/edit reports/documents at the request of the HR office staff
- Assist with New Employee Orientation organization and materials
Required Qualifications*
- 2+ years of related work experience in HR or related business and/or higher education setting
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer service focus
- Experienced professionalism in maintaining a high level of confidentiality and sensitive data
- Strong working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite
- Ability to work well under pressure and multiple payroll/HR deadlines
- Solid understanding of urgent and time sensitive situations with the ability to respond quickly
- Ability to work independently and be an effective team player
- Excited to learn new tasks and take initiative
Desired Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field or an equivalent combination of education or experience
- Experience working with Applicant Tracking and HR Information Systems and reporting
- Interest in growing as an HR professional and developing career opportunities further in the HR field
- Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures, particularly those related to HR functions
Work Schedule
This position is primarily on campus 4 days and one day remote per week. Schedule is subject to change depending on business needs of the office.
Working hours: Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm
