Job Description:

TECHNICAL ANIMATOR

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Artist with a proven track record in developing and maintaining high-quality tools, pipelines, systems, and runtime performance. In this position, you will work with the Technical Art team to ensure real-time gameplay maintains high visual quality while remaining performant and functional. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with peers are essential.

Terms:

• 18-month contract, 40-hours per week
• Location: Vancouver, BC
• Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 remote)

Responsibilities:

• Proactively work with other disciplines to identify workflow pain points and determine solutions.
• Optimize run-time performance by reducing content complexity, lighting cost, draw calls, etc., while maintaining visual quality.
• Use PIX to identify content performance concerns and communicate over-budget assets to respective teams.
• Collaborate with Level Art, Technical Animation, and Character Art teams to troubleshoot performance issues.
• Educate, create technical documentation, and communicate with external vendors.
• Fix bugs in the game as they are reported.

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of video game production.
• Problem-solving skills, specifically in testing and debugging technical issues.
• Strong knowledge of Unreal 4 or equivalent engine.
• Strong knowledge of shader creation and optimization.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D art packages (Photoshop/Maya).
• Scripting/programming skills in Python, C#, and C++.

Preferred Skillsets:

• Experience with Houdini/Substance Designer.
• Games experience is a strong plus.
