Responsibilities*
The Department of Recreational Services is seeking student and non-student staff to lead fitness classes in the Recreation Center. Openings include Group Fitness Instructor. Shifts may be days or evenings, weekdays or weekends, depending on availability. Hourly wage begins at$22/hour, with higher starting wages based on prior experience. Responsibilities include:
- Group Fitness Instructor
- Prepare for and teach drop-in group fitness classes.
- Greet patrons and create a welcoming environment for all levels of fitness and abilities.
- Prepare studio space to ensure for participant safety and comfort.
- Provide first aid when necessary.
Required Qualifications*
- Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR/AED certification
- Ability to obtain nationally recognized personal trainer and/or group fitness instructor certification.
- Demonstrates ability to lead an organized and safe class/training session
- High school diploma or equivalent
Desired Qualifications*
- Current certification for fitness/exercise and/or personal training (NASM, ACSM, ACE, NETA, Zumba, Spin, etc.)
- Experience teaching a group fitness or wellness class format that is currently not offered (current classes listed here)
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
