Position Description
The Family Services Department at Henry Crown and Company, a privately held family office located in downtown Chicago, is seeking a Financial Planner to join the team that serves as a central point of contact at the office for enterprise family members. In addition to coordinating the various services of the office for the benefit of family members, the Financial Planner position plays an essential role in the department’s mission to empower family members to take ownership of their personal financial management through financial literacy education and support their efforts to practice sound integrated financial planning.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for enterprise family members, addressing inquiries in a timely and comprehensive manner while coordinating with internal and external subject matter experts to provide tailored financial guidance.
- Support the development and delivery of financial literacy education, including creating and maintaining educational materials, templates, and presentations, and assisting in one-on-one or group sessions with family members.
- Take an integrated and comprehensive approach to financial planning, considering risks, opportunities, and the unique needs of each family member to ensure sound financial decisions
- Ensure successful delivery and completion of all tasks associated with the inquiries of family members, ensuring high-quality service and seamless collaboration with professionals across the organization and third-party providers
- Contribute to process improvements within the department, optimizing workflows and enhancing the efficiency of service delivery. Track and report data and metrics related to family member engagement with office services, while organizing and maintaining relevant documents, databases, and software systems. Assist with special projects, document collection and review, and other tasks as needed
- Conduct in-depth research on financial planning topics, regulatory updates, and best practices for high-net-worth individuals to ensure the family office provides up-to-date, relevant advice
- Assist communications team with writing articles and guides about financial planning and household administration topics
- Assist with processing and reporting of household staff payroll
- Collect and input information to reserve tickets for events
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in business, finance, or related field
- Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation preferred; other relevant certifications such as CPA or CFA a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial planning or a related field in a professional services environment
- Approaches financial planning in a manner that integrates a variety of disciplines such as cash flow, budgeting, loans, retail banking, taxes, accounting, insurance, and estate planning and other legal considerations
- Practices meticulous self-review, ensuring high standards for the accuracy, content, and format of deliverables
- Proficient in financial planning software, such as eMoney or similar, and able to customize reports to meet client-specific needs
- Provides outstanding, solution-oriented financial advice while maintaining high emotional intelligence, empathy, and professionalism in all interactions
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, proactively suggesting ideas and addressing issues, while exercising sound judgment on when to seek assistance
- Demonstrates a willingness and ability to perform routine administrative activities
- Uses a consultative and educational approach to explain complex financial topics toothers with less experience in topics being discussed, fostering financial literacy and informed decision-making
- Demonstrates high emotional intelligence, empathy, and professionalism when interacting with family members and colleagues, fostering trust and rapport across diverse personalities and communication styles
- Solves problems independently, but exercises sound judgement about when to ask for assistance
- Thrives both independently and as a committed team player, showing confidence when voicing opinions and openness to feedback from team members
- Approaches work and interactions in a positive, organized, and motivated manner
- Demonstrates strong time-management and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple projects concurrently, and meet deadlines
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Teams) and Adobe Acrobat, with knowledge of CRMs, workflow management systems, and payroll processing software (e.g., ADP) being a plus.
- Understands issues specific to multi-generational family enterprises and their members
- Familiarity with compliance requirements, legal documentation, and risk management protocols specific to high-net-worth families
- Experience assisting with or managing household administrative issues such as healthcare, IT, security, and risk management
