Job Summary
The Department of OBGYN is seeking an experienced financial analyst to work with administrative, clinical, research, and financial data sets, to support business operations, strategic initiatives, and department leadership. This position will perform current state assessments to determine department financial health, compensation and incentive programs, faculty activity, contracts (internal and external), and workforce planning. Additionally, this position will forecast revenue, expense, and clinical/research activity to inform future financial health. This position will report to the Finance Manager, and the primary customers will be the Chair, Chief Department Administrator, Associate Chairs, and Division Directors.

Responsibilities*
- Prepare reports, presentations and correspondence related to financial project work, analyses, faculty productivity and departmental performance assessment.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams evaluating strategic, operational and financial aspects of the academic enterprise.
- Work with complex data sets, synthesizing and summarizing results to allow for the identification of key issues, decision-making criteria, and the determination of strategies by senior leadership.
- Design, develop, and recommend new approaches, processes, methodologies and tools for data-driven decision-making and planning.
- Identification of reports and analyses that can be produced and accessed more broadly through Tableau or other reporting software, which will provide real-time access to data and information.
- Participate in special projects to improve reporting, analysis, and internal processes to achieve productivity improvements and customer service delivery.
- Participate in budget and forecast development for the Department of OBGYN.
- Facilitate exceptional customer service delivery to departmental and leadership contacts.
- Query and summarize output from data sources such as Data Warehouse, Revenue Cycle, Practice Management, Finance BI, etc.
- Analytical review of monthly income statement and balance sheet by fund.
- Perform variance analyses of key income statement and balance sheet anomalies, with an understanding of the relationship between operational activity and financial results.
- Monitor/reconcile Department accounts and initiate appropriate corrections. Report balances to Chair/Division Directors/CDA.
- Assist in Michigan Medicine's annual Internal Controls sub-certification process.
- Oversee PSA (Professional Service Agreement) invoicing and reconciling.
- Tracking and analysis of PSA and MOU Patient Care effort for annual reconciliations and reporting.
- Chrome River Approvals for spending on Departmental sources.
- Mentor Financial Specialist in data analysis and reporting.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of work experience
- Ability to build client relationships, function as a member of a team and demonstrate initiative
- Proven experience in financial reporting and management
- Ability to adapt knowledge, learn quickly, and handle multiple work streams simultaneously
- Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow and meet operational deadlines
- Demonstrated competency with Excel (can perform complex functions) and database software to perform financial reporting and management.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written), attention to detail, and the ability to analyze large amounts of complex information to present simple and concise material to the appropriate audience
Senior:
5-8 years of experience with an emphasis in either accounting or finance.
Intermediate:
3-5 years of experience with an emphasis in either accounting or finance.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree in business administration or equivalent
- Experience in healthcare, higher education and/or academic medical center setting
- Advanced analytical, modeling, and data visualization skills within Tableau
- Experience in Business Objects, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Tableau, TOAD and/or Hyperion
- Experience working across multiple functions (finance, IT, HR, Student, Research, etc.) and demonstrated success in quickly developing appropriate domain knowledge from each to support more robust solutions
- Ability to complete complex analytical, consultative and information support through analysis and report preparation
- Detailed knowledge of University financial processes
