Overview

Field Service Engineer II is accountable for overseeing the operation and maintenance of nuclear isotope production and related equipment at multiple locations in the assigned geographic area. This position will support site-based Cyclotron Engineers (and trainees) who handle the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the production-related equipment. This individual should be capable of independent decision-making abilities for complex situations and will be called upon to troubleshoot non-routine manufacturing concerns. The emphasis of this role is proactive and focuses on teaching, training and auditing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Perform routine, non-routine, scheduled, and emergency maintenance on cyclotrons, radio synthesizers, hot cells, and manipulator arms.

* Oversee the activities, provide technical training and support, and support annual performance reviews of the Cyclotron in an assigned area of coverage.

* Develop standardized operating procedures or work instructions for Cyclotron on cyclotron, radio synthesizer, hot cell, and manipulator arm use and maintenance.

* Oversee documentation related to all maintenance activity at the site level.

* Plan accelerator maintenance activities.

* Perform diagnosis and repair on the following: Electronic equipment, electro-pneumatic systems, high vacuum systems, deionized chilled water systems, high voltage, target, and RF systems.

* Submit all work tickets, time cards, and expense reports in a timely manner.

* Provide information to supervisors regarding equipment operation and status.

* Perform routine service and equipment audits at the sites in an assigned area of coverage and provide documentation of audits.

* Assist site personnel with PM's and equipment issues.

* Design and build equipment to improve operational reliability for cyclotron and isotope manufacturing.

* Perform trend analysis and tracking of cyclotron performance data.

* Provide cyclotron operation coverage when required by schedule including shift work, weekend work, and after-hours on-call support.

* Respond to all calls in a reasonable amount of time.

* Provides development of site maintenance personnel in maintenance techniques and technical development with the focus on efficiency, reliability and organization.

* Weekend work required

* All other duties as required.

Qualifications

* 5+ years of cyclotron experience (or related equipment) with Associates Degree in a Technical Discipline or BS in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering required.

* Understand detailed theory of operation for most accelerator systems required.

* Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, procedures, and manuals required.

* Knowledge of basic electronic test equipment, multimeters, oscilloscope, and network analyzers required.

* Exceptional knowledge of mechanical tools used in maintenance of accelerators required.

* Working knowledge of project management techniques required.

* Experienced in diagnosis and repair of equipment failures of accelerators required.

* Knowledge of radiation field survey meters required.

* Knowledge of basic cGMP practices and procedures preferred.

* Ability to climb ladder and stairs, work in protective clothing with respirators, operate in confined spaces (i.e. inside or underneath the cyclotron) and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. required.

* Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation required.

* Work with high voltage equipment required.

* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions required.

* Detailed oriented, accountable, able to work in a team environment with minimum supervision required.

* Experienced in Microsoft suite required.

* Travel up to 75%.

* Prior experience is use and application of a CMMS System in a maintenance environment,
