Exceptional Children Teacher (Grades 9-12) – Math Inclusion & Co-Teaching Focus

Job Description
Provide special education services to children identified as Exceptional in accordance with NC state guidelines. Support students in math inclusion settings by collaborating with general education teachers to implement the student’s IEP plan and ensure they successfully meet their IEP goals. Provide special education instruction through co-teaching and small-group support, utilizing a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ educational needs. Adapt and develop instructional materials to enhance student learning in a math-inclusive environment. Act as a case coordinator for assigned students and maintain their records in compliance with NC law.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education
Certification/License in Exceptional Children
One or more years’ experience teaching students with disabilities in grades 9-12
Experience implementing and managing IEP and 504 programs for students
Experience with developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs
Experience with co-teaching in math inclusion settings
Experience with one-on-one teaching and individualized instruction
Ability to create a multi-tiered system of support for students
Extensive knowledge of special education needs of students
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction learning
Develops aligned lesson plans and instructional materials into learning experiences that challenge students and best utilize the available time for instruction
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress
Modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by school procedures and applicable laws
Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and families
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees
