Responsibilities:
- Routine health physics support - collection of samples, surveys, bioassays, stack sampling
- Assist the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) with the implementation of site-specific radiation protection programs
- External dosimetry program implementation
- Perform general lab safety inspections.
- Participate in Site Emergency Response Team
- Assist in maintaining the Site SDS database.
- Backup to wastewater treatment operator
- Evaluate radiological hazards and requirements for routine and non-routine operations
- May assist with the preparation of regulatory submittals and permits.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM field
- 2-4+ years of experience in health and safety
- 1-2+ years of radiation safety experience working in a laboratory setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science
- Experience working in a laboratory setting a plus.
- Familiar with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 a plus
- Ability to maintain radiation protection records.
- Ability to obtain a MA Wastewater Operator license
- Working knowledge of radiation protection concepts
- Proficiency in Office 365 platform
- Strong written and communication skills
- Working knowledge of safety rules and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels is required.
- Proven experience conducting safety inspections preferred.
- Use of Microsoft Office, automated databases, and an electronic document management system.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, time management, self-motivation, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements (if applicable):
- Ability to wear emergency response equipment, including respirators and chemical/radiological protective clothing
- May be necessary to spend several hours per day on feet in a laboratory environment
Working Conditions: The primary working condition associated with this position is working independently in the office environment. While conducting audits and investigations it is frequently required to work cross-functionally; and/or to enter and work in the Laboratory, Materials Warehouse and/or LN2 Storage Room, in which the conditions may be variable from day to day.
Mental and Physical Demands:Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time and effectively manage conflict and emotional or stressful situations.
Potential Job and Task Hazards:Position requires knowledge of hazards associated with blood products; LN2 vapor phase storage tanks; hazardous chemicals and extended computer/keyboard use.
