The Design Engineer position for Nicor Gas assists in the planning, design, and development of technical projects for gas distribution and transmission infrastructure. The right candidate must be a self-starter, excellent communicator, critical thinker and sound decision maker.

Please note, this position is posted as a job family and may be filled at either the Engineer, I (Level 3), Engineer, II (Level 4) or Engineer, III (Level 5). People who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education and certifications may be eligible for the advanced grade.
As an Engineer in the design group, a typical day might include:
- Performing assignments involving the designs for DOT conflicts, System Improvements, Renewals, Relocations and New Business.
- Planning and designing mechanical equipment and components involving maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Developing meter and regulator set designs and sizing over-pressure protection.
- Collecting and evaluating records for use in uprating procedures.
- Developing design options and guidance to improve the gas distribution system.
- Providing oversight and support for construction activities

- BS in a recognized Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
- 0-2 years of progressive Engineering experience

Equivalent academic education and experience

LEVEL 4:
Education and Experience:

- BS in a recognized Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
- 2 -4 years of progressive Engineering experience

- Ability to influence and persuade in decision making.
- CAD/GIS - intermediate proficiency
- MS Office - advanced proficiency
LEVEL 5:
Education and Experience:
Required:
- BS in a recognized Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
- 5 years of progressive engineering experience in gas standards and materials, project engineering or construction management of natural gas, pipeline facilities or other applicable industries.
- 2 + years familiarity and experience with Gas Safety regulations or utility pipeline construction practices
Certifications/Licenses:
Preferred: Engineer in Training (E.I.T.)
