Job Purpose
This position is based at National Grid's Gas Control Center in Northborough, MA. The Gas Control Engineer provides support to the Control Center in a variety of ways that help ensure the gas system is operated in a safe, secure, reliable, and efficient manner for our customers. The engineer is a main liaison between Gas Control management, field operations and design engineering, providing outage coordination oversite between all internal capital projects and external pipeline maintenance work, ensuring adequate system continuity and project planning.
Key Accountabilities
* Provide critical oversight and support by managing, balancing, and coordinating with system project teams to optimize the Company's short and long-term capital work plans.
* Track external pipeline maintenance plans, and incorporate into National Grids outage planning.
* Ensure that system integrity is not compromised through the construction season, and prepared for winter operations
* Provide direct feedback to engineering colleagues during the design phase of projects to mitigate overall project risk when/where possible.
* Perform data requests and analyses to support the Control Center Leadership decision-making.
* Provide data and technical support to Gas System Operators and external stakeholders.
* Follow up and drive resolution of operational issues and problems.
* Provide input for system additions/modifications.
* Provide support in the development and implementation of the Control Center SCADA Simulators.
* Work with Gas Control Leadership and CNI to update SCADA displays.
* Assist in the preparation of Control Room Management compliance audits.
* Develop reports on large system disturbances or other events as required.
* Manage significant Control Center projects.
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in order to share best practices, drive consistency, and ensure timely delivery of solutions.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
* Gas utility experience is a plus.
* Knowledge of gas system operations and Control Room experience preferred but not required.
* Basic understanding and knowledge of SCADA systems, and SynerGee (modelling software).
* The ability to work under pressure, prioritize workloads, and adapt to changing demands.
* Self-assured - be able to confidently request, challenge and amend information as necessary.
* The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and demonstrate a proactive and collaborative approach when sharing insights.
* Excellent analytical, listening, verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
