The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) Chicago / Chicago Cook County Chapter NECA is looking to fill the position of Assistant Chapter Manager.

As the current Executive Vice President (EVP) is looking to retire in the next few years, this would be a great opportunity for the right motivated individual to learn our organization, show case their skills and abilities, and possibly become the next EVP.

The chapter office is in Westchester, IL, a suburb of Chicago in the Western part of Cook County.  When fully operational the staff consists of the Executive Vice-President (EVP), two assistant managers, office manager, financial assistant, and administrative assistant.  The chapter deals with one local union, IBEW #134, with four (4) collectively bargained agreements representing approximately 600 signatory contractors, and has 70 ECA members.  The chapter also works very closely with the LMCC (Powering Chicago), which is located adjacent to the ECA office, the apprenticeship & training school (INTECH), as well as the trust fund offices (EIT), and many other partners.  The chapter has a strong, involved contractor leadership and membership.

Currently ECA is operating short one assistant manager, this is the position that we are currently looking to fill.

The chapter is taking applications from interested individuals and the hiring committee will then be conducting interviews with selected individuals.

Job Description

In accord with the Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago Employee Manual and to promote a cooperative work environment, listed below is a job description for the position of Assistant Manager.  This description will cover items not specifically stated in the Employee Manual and should serve as a guide for the performance of work duties.  The job description may and will be adjusted from time to time to meet the ever-changing needs of the Electrical Contractors’ Association.

The Assistant Manager reports directly to the Executive Vice-President / Chapter Manager, assisting in all areas of Association Management.  This includes, but is not limited to, certain activities and responsibilities associated with Executive Committee meetings, Regular Membership meetings, Associations Standing Committees, membership development and recruitment, internal and external communication, and numerous other activities.

Position Responsibilities:
•    Serve as primary liaison to the Chapter’s Young Professionals and Culture of Collaboration committees.
•    Attend Board, committee, and other membership meetings as required. Prepare reports for Board and Committee leaders with current activities, recommendations, and other important updates.  Prepare speaking notes for leadership as needed.
•    Plan and execute the association’s conferences, meetings, and annual events with precision and creativity to elevate the members’ experience.  
•    Plan and execute virtual or hybrid meetings and events.
•    Investigate, recommend, and hire professional speakers for Chapter meetings, conferences, and educational events.
•    Develop event and committee annual budgets.
•    Focus on membership growth including recruitment and retention.  Hold “New Member” orientation meetings to communicate membership services and benefits and be their liaison at Chapter events.
•    Identify and report new programs or services to increase member value and benefit.
•    Develop and implement marketing/communications and event promotional materials to keep members informed and promote the organization.
•    Along with the Chapter leadership, be able to attend local, regional, and national events serving member contractors and plan group dining, lodging, and activities accordingly.
•    Collaborate with trade association partners that benefit the members and organization.
•    Oversee the association’s website, ensuring content is up to date and events are properly promoted through online and social media channels.
•    Develop and maintain a social media strategy. Ensure all areas of social/digital media are optimized as effective marketing and communication tools.
•    Evaluate metrics and report on effectiveness of marketing and social media effectiveness as it relates to the organization’s visibility, membership, and event participation.
•    Manage the relationship with all vendors and contractors such as website partners, graphic designers, printers, as well as other service providers, and ensure quality of work, timeliness of work and appropriate cost.
•    Assist leadership with strategic messaging needs, including speechwriting and presentation development.
•    Remain current on trends and issues impacting the Chicagoland construction industry, marketing, communications, and association management.
•    Support the Association initiatives with media and public relations activities.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications & Requirements:
•    Bachelor’s degree required (business, marketing, communications, or other comparable degree); advanced degree or committed progress toward CAE designation or experience working in a trade association or member services environment.
•    High level of discretion, ability to handle sensitive confidential information required.
•    Track record of planning successful meetings, conferences, and other events.
•    Strong leadership and team building skills, and a member service driven work ethic.
•    Excellent project management skills: ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects with varying timelines and deadlines.
•    Knowledge in the latest digital and social media technology and channels and how to best leverage for marketing the Association.
•    Demonstrated skills to apply effective oral, electronic, and written communication methods with colleagues and members.
•    Ability to work effectively with all multi-disciplinary team members, both internal and external. 
•    Stay abreast of emerging trends and trade association best practices.
•    Proficiency or eagerness to learn programs that support marketing & communication efforts, including Constant Contact, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and others.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required; ability to learn new technology as required.  
•    Willingness to travel for events, including overnight trips
•    Other duties as assigned.
