Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention advocacy group, is seeking a Director of Development. This position will be tasked with managing Everytown’s Major Gifts program, raising donations and overseeing outreach to Everytown’s largest donors, prospecting to help find new supporters, managing a small team of staff and professional fundraising consultants, and developing a plan to help the organization meet its annual fundraising goals for major gifts.
In this role you will:
- Manage all of Everytown’s major donor fundraising. This includes setting goals for annual fundraising, setting up (and in some cases, staffing) fundraising trips for Everytown senior principles; prospecting for new donors; following up on meetings, including the management of proposal generation and follow-through; managing correspondence to/from major donors; and conducting donor maintenance for all portfolio donors.
- Work with the COO, Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, and fundraising consultants to put together an annual travel calendar, and develop a strategic plan to hit yearly fundraising goals.
- Help the team think through opportunities for event-driven fundraising in select states where we have opportunities to bring existing and potential donors together to learn more about Everytown’s work.
- Develop, solicit and provide updates to donors in emerging states.
You will have:
- At least 10+ years of fundraising experience for comparable nonprofit organizations or high-profile campaigns
- Experience managing a team of full-time staff, and experience managing consultants
- Experience staffing or providing support to senior level principles
- Experience soliciting six or seven-figure donations from donors of all backgrounds (private individuals, foundations, etc)
- Strong writing and communications skills
- Attention to detail and an ability to be intuitive and think of potential questions or problems before they arise
- Strong donor prospecting skills, an entrepreneurial mindset and an ability to think outside the box to find new funders
- A self starter attitude and the ability to work independently
- The ability to travel one to two times monthly to cities across the country, as needed
The salary range for this role is $160,000-$175,000 per year. Everytown offers a generous benefits package including PTO, 401K Match, Education Assistance and more.
