The Hagen History Center, an American history museum, is seeking a key professional for our small and dedicated team. We believe that the best talent can be found right here in the Erie region. The Director of Collections and Archives is a leadership position responsible for the oversight of the museum’s large and growing collection of 2D and 3D items. The position manages a staff of two PT individuals and two contractors.
The following duties are expectations and responsibilities for the role:
· Archives artifacts and supervises archival staff.
· Maintains appropriate records to fully document the history and importance of the collection and conducts research to further the understanding and knowledge of the History Center’s holdings.
· Coordinates and maintains best practice policies and procedures for the use and management of historical collections.
· Creates and recommends historical interpretation projects by providing leadership in exhibition development and implementation.
· Organizes and develops original interpretive themes, exhibit messages, and storylines.
· Selects artifacts for exhibits, and writes interpretive text and identification labels for exhibits and exhibit publications.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements for application:
A minimum of a master’s degree in an applicable field – Archives, Museum Studies, History, etc.
At least three years of experience in the field.
