LewistonThe Lewiston Tribune in Lewiston Idaho is hiring a Cops and Courts Reporter

The Lewiston Tribune is seeking a person with journalism experience for one of our six reporting positions. The primary duty is reporting on cops and courts in Lewiston and Nez Perce County. Reporting on K-12 education in our region might also be part of the job. The position is mostly Mondays through Fridays, but there will be occasional evening assignments and weekend shifts. The ideal candidate will have a strong journalism background with reporting experience, but recent college graduates will also be considered.

The Lewiston Tribune covers an eight-county region in north central Idaho and southeastern Washington. It prints six days per week and updates its website every day. We also work closely with our sister paper, the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, which prints twice per week and updates its website daily. The Lewiston Tribune has been family-owned since 1892.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Making daily checks at the Nez Perce County Courthouse to cover new and ongoing legal cases.

* Cover breaking news, such as major crimes, fires and significant traffic accidents.

* Develop a good working relationship with local first responders.

* Frequent off-beat coverage, which also might include being our primary K-12 reporter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field preferred. Reporting experience a huge plus.

* Strong news judgment and storytelling abilities are a big plus.

* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

* Knowledge of north central Idaho and southeastern Washington issues, politics and culture preferred.

* Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.

* Willingness to occasionally take photos and videos of spot news, and to take part in podcasts and other multimedia projects.

* Willingness to draw in more readers via your own social media platform.
