Responsibilities

The Community Center Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Community Center serves as a premier recreation outlet for the entire community and that services are provided in an effective, efficient and customer-friendly manner. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: 

  • Develops short-term and long-term facility plans to increase center use, populations served and efficiency of operations. Works with recreation supervisors to optimize the mix of programs and services offered to include inclusion and variety to serve a diverse population.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for the Community Center to increase membership and participation including membership and facility pricing, partnerships with user groups and health organizations, retentions, and special events and promotions.
  • Provides direction to all non-exempt and exempt employees to ensure efficient, polite, and complete services to the public. Develops, establishes and implements plans, policies, procedures and measurement tools to ensure that those standards are continually met or exceeded. Ensures compliance with all legal and team licensing requirements.
  • Recruits, manages and develops employees by establishing goals and objectives, providing effective feedback and development opportunities, ensuring employees receive proper on-the-job training, and managing performance.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and administers the Community Center Division segment of the Parks and Recreation Budget. Monitors expenses and drive cost effective plans.
  • Participates in all the centers design and remodeling processes. Manages impact of projects on operations, customers and employees. Maintains all software upgrades in partnership with information technology. Enforce facility rules and regulations to ensure safety and positive experiences for all guests.
  • Provides leadership to the Eden Prairie Community Center at internal partnership meetings and represents the City of Eden Prairie at external partnership meetings for the purpose of building strong relationships and successfully accomplishing goals.

While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation or related field required.
  • Must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in a similar type of recreation facility, with at least three years in a management capacity required. Experience supervising full-time employees is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of office software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases (MS Office) and experience with Rectrac or similar registration software.
  • Physical effort is moderate for most of the work with lifting or carrying limited to 50 intermittently. There are intermittent visits to City Department locations, some of which are in other areas of the city.  There is a need to analyze reports and make presentations, which involves public speaking in front of City leaders.  Report preparation and writing at times requires extended use of a keyboard.  Work interruptions are frequent.
  • Most work is performed in a normal office environment.  Occasional driving or riding is required to attend meetings.
  • Candidates must successfully complete and pass the Citys evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, leadership evaluation, work verification and education verification if applicable.

  • Consistently reviews expenditures and operating results relative to customer outcomes. Optimizes the use of staff time by using technology, smart scheduling, and eliminating tasks that do not add value.  Protects the Citys investment in physical resources through preventative care and maintenance.
