Key elements of Freight Operations include:

  • Support Freight Trading Strategy for our Time-Charter fleet by adding as much value as possible to the bottom-line whilst maintaining safe and compliant operations

  • Conduct all freight operational activities promptly and professionally ensuring that all obligations and requirements under the charter party contract terms are met. This refers both to our external charters and internal business

  • Identify and maximize the embedded optionality within charter party agreements (i.e. laycan, demurrage rates, ship space parceling, ship swaps, backhaul opportunities)

  • Ensure the efficient operation of time-chartered vessels including the issuance of voyage orders, the correct preparation of cargo tanks and the issuance of LOIs in accordance with charter party terms and conditions

  • Ensure that bunker procurement is optimised in terms of location, cost and grade in close liaison with the freight trader

  • Support fleet performance optimisation initiatives to reduce bunker consumption

  • Optimize tank cleaning operations for vessel readiness for wall wash test as required by carriage of goods requirements

  • Ensure that service provider appointments are made in line with Shell policies and guidelines and expedites turnaround of the vessel

  • Liaise with Demurrage & Finance teams to maximise outgoing claims and ensure settlements are fulfilled timely and accurately

  • Identify & develop areas for process improvement in freight activities

  • Use in-house tools for managing ship operations and records

What we need from you

Commercially aware and able to make rapid and accurate decisions, you'll have proven experience in analysing complex issues and managing your demanding workload effectively to ensure deadlines are met.  Confident and self-motivated, your excellent interpersonal and communication skills mean you'll be able to liaise effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders. You'll also have a thorough understanding of all contractual, license and regulatory obligations in the markets in which Shell operates. 

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Must be available to attend to operational matter hours and weekends as needed

  • 2 or more years of experience in handling commercial tanker operations

  • Manage cost associated with voyages vessel, understanding implications of demurrage

  • Tanker sailing experience preferred

  • Understanding of cargo stow plan and cargo change over requirements

  • Understanding of bunker fuel requirements and different grades of bunker fuel, essentially monitor fuel consumption and responsible for procurement

  • Understanding of charter party terms

  • Understanding of carriage requirements for different chemicals

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders such as freight trading, finance and operations for efficient commercial and operational performance of the vessels

The base salary range for this position is $101,000 - $151,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.           

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 3 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
