Summary

As Clinical Psychologist (Staff Psychologist) this position will provide psychological services to youth and adults within the Behavioral Health Service of the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Service Unit (ACL), Indian Health Service (IHS), Acomita, NM. Duties will be performed under the supervision of the Supervisory Psychologist.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides direct clinical psychological services consisting of individual, family and group psychotherapy and telehealth for those presenting with a range of emotional and psychiatric disorders.
  • Provides psychological evaluations for emotional and psychiatric disorders utilizing appropriate psychological testing in accordance with established standards.
  • Consults with medical staff on appropriate services, treatment or referral to other appropriate facilities.
  • Coordinates patient care and outreach services with providers, agencies, tribal entities, families and individuals to develop comprehensive services and provide continuity of patient care.
  • Develops evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment options allowing for the sensitive and appropriate cross-cultural areas of psychotherapy in community planning and working with local organizations.
  • Carries out case management services and maintains appropriate client records.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. Basic Requirements for the Clinical Psychologist, 0180
You must have completed the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

Selective Placement Factor
You must possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license(s) as a psychologist in a state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. Exception: A Public Law (P.L.) 94-437 Indian Health Care Improvement Act graduate who has received a qualifying degree in the 12 months preceding appointment may be appointed with the stipulation that they obtain certification within two years of their entrance on duty.You must include a copy of such license or proof of the degree with your application. Failure to do so may result in being found not qualified for this position.

Additional Requirements
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, to qualify for the grade GS-13, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (obtained in public or private sector) performing the following:
(1) Applying ethical and professional guidelines in diagnosing and treating emotional and psychiatric disorders;
(2) Providing clinical psychological services and care for children, adolescent and adult individuals with emotional and/or psychiatric disorders;
(3) Using knowledge of human behavior and performance in assessing and developing treatment and preventative services for behavioral disorders, mental or emotional illnesses, or substance abuse;
(4) Performing health care and psychotherapy interventions which may include youth or adult patients, families or groups.
