About the Role:
The position provides an opportunity to work within a supportive team that is implementing innovative design software and technology to support King County's wastewater facilities and infrastructure, including the implementation of BIM Models, 3D Lidar Scans, and document management software. This position offers the flexibility to work both in an office environment and remotely from home, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance. It also involves working on challenging and rewarding design projects that promote sustainability and support the health of the community and environment.
As a CAD Designer / Drafter you will perform technical engineering design duties and responsibilities for wastewater treatment and conveyance projects. Incumbents are responsible for performing at a high technical level in creating engineering graphics to produce project plans and in the coordination of drafting tasks with other members of the drafting section.The Project Planning and Delivery Section oversees and manages wastewater system projects from conception to completion. This includes planning, engineering, contract management, implementation, and close-out of projects. The Engineering Unit provides engineering support to capital projects, whether they are internal design projects or providing support to consultant led design projects. The CAD Designer Team develop the engineering contract drawings for projects alongside engineers, adhering to all King County WTD CADD Standards.
This position performs work remotely and onsite.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Working with engineering to provide CAD support in developing engineering contract plan sets of drawings. Including, but not limited to, site plans, profiles, elevations, sections, details, process & instrumentation diagrams, schematics, loop and control diagrams, cable and conduit schedules.
- Support project teams as the lead designer on capital design projects, coordinating amongst multiple disciplines and designers.
- Perform field investigations, as built surveys, and measurements to produce finished contract, record, and facility drawings.
- Coordinate with consultants; ensuring compliance with King County CADD standards.
- Coordinate design and drafting work assignments; oversee and provide direction to staff members on appointed projects.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Proficient with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and computer aided design (CAD) system(s). (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plant 3D, Navisworks, or Revit)
- Skilled in the production of technical graphic layouts and drafting techniques.
- Knowledge of CADD standards and document management.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations for all design and drafting assignments.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload and assignments to meet project schedules and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.
- Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Customer Focused - Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.

Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with a minimum of once-a-month onsite for collaborative meetings. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104) and treatment plant facilities. This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work.
- Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by Technical Employee's Association (TEA).
