Description: The purpose of the class is to assist with various mosquito and arboviral surveillance activities. Under general supervision, performs specialized work in the Biology Department. Work involves routine surveillance and identification of adult mosquitoes; setting, maintaining, and collecting adult mosquito traps, as well as using a microscope to identify adult mosquito specimens to species. This position reports to the Biologist II.

This position reports to the Biologist II.
Essential Functions:
- Deploys and collects various mosquito traps; identifies adult mosquito catches to species level;
- Documents data and reports findings to Biologist II.
- Pools appropriate mosquito specimens for arboviral testing.
- Assists with field surveys of potential mosquito habitats. Identifies and defines potential mosquito breeding sites under the direction of Biologist I; works with staff to survey these sites, collecting larvae and identifying to species level; reports results to Biologist II.
- Maintains sentinel chicken flocks and collects blood samples.
- Performs routine maintenance of field supplies and equipment.
- Records weekly maintenance on Biology vehicles and reports issues to Biologist II and Mechanics.
- Assists with various tests (e.g. pesticide resistance, efficacy trails, and effects on non-target species) for the purpose of evaluating and improving mosquito control pesticides and techniques under the direction of the Biologist II.
- Assists with educational programs and outreach for various ages and special interest groups
- Assists with organization of courses for technical and pesticide recertification training; participates in administrative organization of surveillance, test results, and research summaries at professional scientific meetings and conferences.
- This position may be required to support field personnel as needed. This includes gaining hands-on experience with field operations, application techniques, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Assists Biologist I and Biologist II with special projects as needed.
