Associate Engineer - Distribution Planning

Salary: The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $65,000-$75,000
JOB SUMMARY:
Uses prescribed methods, standard practices and techniques in
the design and preparation of specifications or engineering studies
related to assigned projects under the supervision of
the incumbent's immediate supervisor. Designs various electrical
systems of moderate size and complexity under the direction of the
incumbent's supervisor or other engineer. Completes System Impact Studies and final reports for new Distributed Generation (DG) projects.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of
responsibilities):
1. Performs engineering analysis of the electric distribution system
to properly serve customer loads and distributed generation (DG) projects. Conducts reliability analysis of the worst performing circuits and recommends corrective actions.
Assists in the preliminary design and budgetary estimates of major
projects.
2. Assists in specifying technical aspects of contracts, bid
evaluation, recommendation of contractors, and administration of
contract terms and conditions. Assists in monitoring construction work
to ensure conformance with plans and specifications and engineering
codes and practices. Assist in equipment specification, construction
standards development, and proposal evaluation and requisitioning.
Assist in the monitoring and documentation of construction and system impact study schedules to ensure timely completion of work.
3. Lead or contribute to key initiatives, including studies, compliance, regulatory, support of capital projects, economic development and all other business objectives. Specific roles and assignments are based on group work plans that are naturally adjusted throughout the year based on changing business needs. Support other business area and department priorities and initiatives.
4. Checks completed job for adequacy or design and documentation.
Performs economic analyses of engineering alternatives. Aids in
evaluation and approval of contractors invoices.
5. Assists in analysis of distribution system reliability studies,
contingency plans, capital budget project proposals, financial models,
flicker analysis, and/or fuse-recloser (or recloser-recloser) coordination.
6. Select, evaluate and request equipment, materials, or services.
Review vendor designs and single line diagrams, assists in the evaluation and selection of
vendors, determines product and final report acceptability.
7. Acts as project engineer, when required, on projects. Serves as
project coordinator on assigned projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience Required:
Graduate 4-year Electrical Engineering program
0-3 years relevant experience
Skills/Abilities:
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
