Full Job Description

Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with Stanford University in the search for an Associate Director of Development.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Office of Development, the Associate Director of Development will lead fundraising efforts for an ecosystem of academic and programmatic initiatives dedicated to understanding how we live together and thrive as communities and societies. This ecosystem includes the Institute for Advancing Just Societies (IAJS), which advances justice by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, translating research into real-world solutions, and promoting healthier, more resilient, and thriving communities. The Associate Director will play a vital role in securing philanthropic support for this ecosystem and its interconnected initiatives, ensuring alignment with Stanford's broader mission of knowledge in service of humanity. The Associate Director will collaborate with faculty, development colleagues, and university leadership to engage donors and secure resources that sustain and grow these efforts.

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Stanford University is a place of discovery, creativity, and innovation. Founded in 1885, Stanford's areas of excellence span seven schools along with research institutes, the arts, and athletics. Stanford's students, faculty, and staff work to improve the health and well-being of people around the world through the discovery and application of knowledge. Stanford's mission is to contribute to the world by educating students for lives of leadership and contribution with integrity; advancing fundamental knowledge and cultivating creativity; leading in pioneering research for effective clinical therapies; and accelerating solutions and amplifying their impact.

Stanford provides its nearly 8,000 undergraduate and more than 9,000 graduate students the opportunity to engage with big ideas, to cross conceptual and disciplinary boundaries, and to become global citizens who embrace diversity of thought and experience. Students are offered broad and deep academic programs across seven schools and multiple fields including the arts and humanities, natural and social sciences, engineering, sustainability, medicine, law, education, and business. The university's breadth of excellence and culture of innovation uniquely position it to attract and retain the best faculty in the world, who offer students the knowledge and tools to discover and embrace new ideas, and to prepare for successful careers and lives of service. The need for strong ethical principles to achieve a common good is embedded across all educational offerings. Stanford's distinguished alumni network and highly engaged alumni community provide students with lifelong access to mentors and peers, who help to create partnerships with the world beyond campus, once again enhancing the collective contributions of the community.

Students can choose from among more than 600 student organizations to become involved in, ranging from religious, ethnic, and cultural groups to organizations focusing on the arts and community service, to social, athletic, and recreational activities. And Stanford offers 36 varsity sports 20 for women and 16 for men in addition to campus-wide physical education academic classes, fitness and wellness, aquatics, intramurals, adventure programming, and 43 club sports.

A bachelor's degree and at least five years of relevant experience is required for this position. Stanford University will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to Stanford, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and rsum. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of Stanford University as well as the responsibilities and qualifications presented in the prospectus.

The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $151,000 annually.

Stanford University is committed to the inclusion of all qualified candidates. If you require reasonable accommodation in completing this application, interviewing, or participating in the selection process, please contact Kim Farr atkimfarr@aspenleadershipgroup.com.
