What You'll Do

The Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is the primary interface between ISR faculty and corporate and foundation partners. Their core responsibility will be to generate U-M philanthropic support from corporations and foundations. This position provides support to faculty to engage with corporations and foundations and will also serve as the key point of contact for inquiries to ISR from corporations and foundations. The Associate Director will also act as the main point of contact for campus partners regarding ISR's strategic interdisciplinary activities across the university.

Responsibilities*

Corporate and Foundation Relations Outreach - 40% 

  • Serve as ISR's primary point of contact for corporate and foundation inquiries and requests from external constituents 
  • Research, identify, and develop engagement efforts for prospective and existing corporate and foundation prospects. Invent and direct a short- and long-term plan for cultivation and stewardship strategies and tools.
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation relationships, generating philanthropic support from this portfolio 
  • Schedule and host visits to campus 
  • Assist in gift agreement review and processing 

 Faculty Engagement - 40%

  • Maintain knowledge of ISR's faculty and research interests 
  • Serve as ISR's primary point of contact for faculty funding requests. 
  • Coach faculty and others effectively and efficiently on funding proposals and donor strategies. Provide advice and consulting services regarding foundation development programs including benchmarking, strategic analysis, prospect research and proposal planning. 

 Campus and ISR Collaboration - 20% 

  • Act as key liaison with OUD's Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations to develop best practices 
  • Build strong relationships with Corporate and Foundation Relations leads across campus
  • Work closely with ISR core teams (research administration, communications, business office) to ensure an integrated approach to promote research success. 
  • Manage ISR's cross campus strategic initiatives where required
  • Work closely with the ISR major gifts teams to identify key alumni in senior positions in businesses and foundations to generate philanthropic opportunities 

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree and 2+ year of experience in a corporate & foundations fundraising environment, non-profit, relationship or program management. In lieu of a bachelor's degree 6+ years of experience in a corporate & foundations fundraising environment, non-profit , relationship/program management
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary programs 
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills
  • Strong grant writing skills and experience
  • Experience with developing strategic plans, program management, and establishing new programs
  • Experience working in the social sciences or social justice related work
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong computing and technical skills, including familiarity with cloud-based tools, word processing, spreadsheet, database, data visualization tools, and other applications; Strong online research skills

Work Locations

This position is on-site at the University of Michigan, Institute for Social Research, in Ann Arbor. 

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
