National Grid is hiring an Analyst for our Policy & Regulatory Strategy team in Boston, MA.This is a hybrid role, with a mix of office and remote work within National Grid's service territory.
Job Purpose
The energy transition presents challenges and opportunities for us as a business and for the wider sector, requiring careful balancing of objectives across decarbonization, affordability, and energy system reliability. Our team evaluates these issues and designs policy and regulatory frameworks to support an effective energy transition for National Grid's U.S. operations in New York and Massachusetts and the nearly six million customers we serve.
This position will contribute to these efforts by conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, supporting the development of policy and regulatory proposals, and collaborating with internal teams to address key challenges facing the energy industry.
Key Accountabilities
* Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to support policy and regulatory strategy development.
* Build and maintain analytical tools and models to support the development and execution of regulatory and policy advocacy.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate energy and climate policy frameworks, assess their strategic implications, and help build strategies to deliver beneficial external outcomes.
* Support the development of regulatory filings, public comments on regulatory and policy proposals, and internal policy and strategy materials.
* Produce high-quality presentations, reports, and memos to clearly communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
* Ensure timely delivery of high-quality work product that aligns with business objectives.
* Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's degree required; a graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., energy policy, economics, or environmental studies) is a plus.
* Experience: Minimum of three (3) years' relevant work experience, preferably in the energy industry, with a strong preference for experience at a utility or regulatory agency.
* Technical Skills:
o High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel for quantitative analysis, including developing and maintaining financial or data-driven models.
o Experience with data analysis programming languages (e.g., R or Python) is highly desirable.
o Ability to synthesize data and produce reports that inform decision-making.
* Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with energy and environmental policy, the utility business model, and the basics of utility regulation.
* Analytical Ability: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex issues and recommend data-driven solutions.
* Communication:
o Excellent written and oral communication skills.
o Ability to create clear and concise presentations, memos, and reports for internal and external audiences.
* Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across functional areas.
* Time Management: Strong organizational, time-management, and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Salary
$77k - $100k a year
